Awhile back I saw a concept to bring these guys to their knees, just refuse to buy gas from a gas company. You can buy gas elsewhere but for about a week imagine if NOBODY in the US bought gas from just one major company. You would see prices come down. The problem is having everyone get together on this. Would never happen.

I dont think it would work, even if you could miraculously get every one orginized. If I'm not mistaken, just bacause a gas station says "Exxon" on it, doesnt mean the gas in the tanks is. I'm pretty sure its traded on the open market up untill you pump it in your tank. So the only person being hurt is the local gas station owner.
I got a better idea. Exxon is publically traded. Go buy some of their stock, and reap the profits. Then, each time you hear someone bitch about the prices, remember that some small share of it is all yours.

True the gas in the tanks aren't always 76, ect. Privatly owned gas stations can put whatever they want in their tanks, even if they are a exxon or chevron. I think that's bullshit, but hey, what can you do.

Gas isn't traded its just rented, well thats the term the companies use. Gas is pumped via large pipelines from refineries all over the US. As soon as company X drops off 15000 gallons of gas in state Y they can immediatly take out 15000 gallons in state Z, they dont have to wait for their gas to actually get there. The pipelines are publically owned, not commecially, so the companies dont own them (I think this was to prevent monopolies). Basically the gas you get at an Exxon station isn't necessarily refined by Exxon, it most likely isn't. Also all the additives they put in are very minor and have little to no effect on the gas. The only place they can add their additives is right before they load them onto the truck to go out, and since this is after the refinement actually took place it's impact on the gas is minimal, its mostly used to dilute the gas more than to improve it. But back to topic. Its a capitalist country, so people are out to make money. Why are we bitching when someone does? It's our fault for agreeing to pay the prices not theirs for suppling out needs. The only effective way to lower the price of gas is to push an alternate source for fuel which they would then have to compete with. The market is cornered and they know it.

Poor Man

Regarding the high price of gas, he says "We're all in this together."

This coming from a guy with a $400 MILLION dollar retirement package coming right off of a $51 million salary.

Somehow, I have a hard time beleiving that the price of gasoline has any effect on this guy's budget.

So he made an assload of money. Bill gates made an assload of money too, all of the back of the poor workers having to buy his crappy operating system. Whats the big effin deal? Lets not foster socialism, please, just take a look at how well its working for europe. They are paying $5 a liter there.

By "We are all in this together" I think he meant the global competition. There is so much oil, and the chinese want it just as much as we do. To me, that seems the greatest danger of going after our oil companies. While they make their insane revenues, they are strong, and can fight off current competition. And as mentioned earlier there is an easy way to take part of their profits. If we bind our companies together, they will loose ground to foreign gas companies. Then we will have a whole shit load of cheap non existant gas. I'd rather see a gas station with a $6/gallon sign then one with a $1/gallon and an "empty" sign.

I have nothing against the free market system. I don't even have anything against the ridiculously inflated compensation packages paid to most CEO's. Hey, if you can pull it off, all the more power to ya! God knows I'd like to be in that same position myself.

What galls me is when those who are in positions of massive wealth or power try to pretend like they are just like the "average Joe". People at this level are completely out of touch with reality as the average person experiences it, and to pretend otherwise is hypocritical and insulting.

No, but he did increase the company's stock value somewhere to the tune of 500%! That certainly deserves a golden parachute (granted $400 mil is a bit excessive, but what the hell!)

Exxon's stock increased in value 500% during his reign as CEO of Exxon is IMO a much more accurate statement. It's equivalent to all the critics who don't believe Bush is responsible for anything cause he's just a figurehead and doesn't really have any power.. ;)

If they are making so much how come gas prices are soo high. Somewhere in there the prices are being raised to allow for such profit...
