For all those with 02 and 03 R1's and that special 'RRR Harry' version Legend's got, you may be interested to find out what kind of grunt it's putting end at its back end.

I've just been down the dyno and according to the nice people at MSC Racing mine is making - SAE Power (PS) 135.1 @11,250RPM.

I think that means 135 BHP at the rear wheel!

I was a little surprised as I thought a stock bike would be lucky to make 131. This is the figure I have seen on some of the 'before and after' power graphs the performance exhaust manufacturers state with a stock pipe.

The higher than expected reading could be due to the calibration of the machine itself, but they had another 02 R1 on record which in stock form produced 130.

Another factor for a higher reading is a 520 chain conversion. The lighter chain must have helped but I wondering whether the somewhat enthusiastic gearing I've put on could have tainted the result. I understand that the gearing shouldn't effect the reading, but would be pleased to find out if anyone thinks or knows otherwise.

They had the exhaust analyser on whilst they were doing the run and it appears my bike is running rich or maybe that was a cue for me to ask them to plug for a shiny new PowerCommander III in to sort it all out but i resisted........just!

Nice Boycie .. nice !!!

Hey laddie ... nice figure bro .. nice !!!

Can I ask you a couple of questions ...

1. How many k's you done so far
2. Did you notice any difference to your bike are the 520 conv.
3. How much did it cost to get the dyno run, and how long did it take them all up
4. How much HP did big phil say the old ledge was putting out?

cheers !!

P.S .... not that I know shite, but I do recall reading somewhere that in general most modern bikes run too LEAN ... which is a bad thing .. too RICH is better .... arf arf .. there ya go Big Phil .. call me a mag reading reciter !!

well here ya go

The orig legend is puttin out 128 with Yoshpipe and dyno jet kit.
More than enough for me.
It was runnin standard way to lean as well, so thats sorted.
A bit low compared to some other R1's with the same set up but there you go. What the dyno jet did do was smooth out the power curve and get rid of the EXUP hic.

God knows what boycie's will do with a straight through pipe and power comander. 140 in sight...lucky bleeder.

Of course Legend you RRR version will probably blow the dyno!

I'll send you directions tomorrow mate.
Adios

PS Anybody know DD phone number or if he's in town. Got a rear seat unit he wanted.

Cheers

LegEnd

1) Just under 10K

2) I re-geared my bike 2 up on the rear and 1 down on the front when I did the conversion so I can't tell you the benefit of just changing the chain. With my gearing, Yes there was a noticable difference, acceleration is much better I'm using 6th down the straights but the front end has become much lighter coming out of corners so you have to be cmore careful with the throttle.

3)S$80

4) Legend 1 is putting out 126+

PS Prefer a lttile to rich to a little to lean, but I have heard that if it gets bad the aadditional mixture can wash the bores of oil and cause wear. I hope thats crap!

Or hogwash :twofinger

Rich will run cooler (wont seize up and no holes in yer pistons) but with less power and if its very rich it could wash the bores.
Lean will run hotter (might seize up and burn holes in yer pistons)but with more power

I prefer the ideal air fuel ratio for shit loads of power and no holes, but the PCIII ya tight bastid :twofinger

Tight...Me..Well I never did?

Yes indeed, there's 10 horses to be had with a pipe and PCIII and all for around S$2K.

And there was a geeser with a carbon kit for grabs for S$1.8K or so he says.

But what am I saying, I publicly denounced the use of pipes and bolt on goodies about a month a go in my 'Stay Stock & Don't be a Girl', campaign.

I feel a slight reversal of thinking coming on, but how Im going to get away with it?

I hate humble pie it tastes shite.

You Mr Boyce

aint gettin away with shit my man.

Yes the "bolt on goody statments were noted.

Bores: Thought they were coated nowa days with telfon fryin pan like stuff ( a fryin pan boys....a kitchen utensil used to prepare food)( a fryin pan girls.... a weapon)
And what with the injectors atomising the fuel I reckon cylinder wash is history. except if the bugger aint firing.
Carbs on the other hand with poxy emmulsion tubes and jets mmmmm!

What's with the 126+ you knob, it was 128 i'm desperate for every pony that'll com-pensate the gut effect.
Cant see how the chain or sprokets are a factor. Minimal friction if any.

Be real interested to see what the 03's are kickin out. RRR version or otherwise.

Me thinks soembody's goin to buy himself a Christmas present soon!

Cheers

Max ... 141 HP !! ... I can see this becoming a "mine is bigger ...". Toss-star .. what's the Gixer thou putting out ?

I'll add my wee techie bit ...... I managed to have 70 k's showing on the fuel counter on Ledge One before I ran out of gas, mind it was running a bit lean then.

Tonight I managed 50 k's before getting to a gas station, and I squeezed 16.35 litres into's it's sexy wee 17 litre tank.... I'm getting about 220 k's before my fuel light comes on.

Tonight was 275 k's, 16.35 litres ... that's 16.8 k's per litre ... nice !!

Ah ... Dyno run comming soon. I also need a reg sticker ... so Red Penis (aka Yellow Peril), you fancy catching up in the weekend, and we can dyno your steed at the same time and sort out stickers ??

Hahaha, I stopped adding up years ago... No Fear undies sound the go though... :D

Ledge, a stock suzi thou is around the 140-145 mark. Tug (the cheating bastid) must be making near on 160 by now?? and just think what your figures would be in a land free of the 85% humidity and such stinking hot air.....

and can someone please explain to a slow thinker how the hell you can run Sepang with 2 up and 1 down??? Wouldn't the needle be bouncing through the red half way down the straights??

Phil

Agree with everything apart from the sprockets and chain. - The gearing made me faster no question. No 530 sprockets is sg at the time, to easy to go with the flow and buy a 520.

Whose got my rear stand....em? Mr New tacky rear indicators with fake carbon, slip on Pipette, and clean and fresh under tray!

Dave

Swings and roundabouts, some corners are now just excellent, some I'm screaming the nuts off of it. Havent tried it at in this configuration on the full circuit at Sepang but for the first time on the half circuit I'm using top down the straight.

During the GP support race (standard sprockets),which was full track, I was just changing into 6th down the main straight before thinking about coming off the gas and breaking, so i hope it will work there too.

At Pasir Gudang, screaming at out 1 and 5 and have to short shift before tipping left into 11 after chicane cos cant change up with it keeled over to the left. The extra acceleartion is really useful on this track.

Not sure I'll stay with it come pipe and PCIII. Probably up 1 on the front.

And I've got a brand new combine harvestor

Big Phil ... the number you require is **** ****. Push 1 to replay or 2 for another listing.

The Blue Cat was making 143 "over" hp at the back wheel prior to a series of 1km plus wheelies in pursuit of the "Wheelie King" title.

Resulting oil starvation problem saw HP drop back to 138 and inflicting a Blue Cat Surprise on an unexpecting Datsun Bluebird hasn't helped any either.

Read em and weep R1 gaylords

152.8 at the wheel with a mid range stomp that would pull the clip-ons off an R1:twofinger Gearing a conservative 1 down front and 1 up on rear 520 conversion.
Thats with a pipe, gasket and PCIII, who knows what next year will bring:D

The figures from Baby Face Boycy's machine are impressive........................for a Yamaha:twofinger

Dont want to know what Uncle Joe's machine is churning out:crying: Have you seen it lately:eek: Looks very impressive:drool: Appart from the flames;)

Very nice indeed, but as you say can do without the flames. Was very tempted to do the same until I heard the price of S$600 for the paint job. Ouch!!:hurl:
