I am getting ready to put a set of Renegade pipes on this weekend. I just figured I would put the chip that comes with them in the bike and take out the FactoryPro chip that I have now.

My thinking was that the Rene chip would be tweaked to work best with the Rene pipes.

Has anyone had any experience runnning the FactoryPro chip with the Renes? If so what is your comparitive assesment?

I've heard that the FP chip is superior to just about everything out there, including the renegade. I'd give them both a shot and see what you think. I believe the renegade chip only has one fuel map on it so you need to find out whether or not it is supposed to be run restricted (wire uncut- switch to on) or unrestricted (switch to off). Be sure to give them each a good 15 minute or so run- the computer takes some time to adjust to the different mapping.

btw, I just picked up a full set of Sharkskins, spare wheels/rotors/axles, a hyperpro dampner, a 520 conversion, and a bunch of other stuff. Wahoo!

This is actually kind of funny

With all that gear and a strong motor you will have no excuse to not be at the head of the pack!

The pipes and airbox kit arrive Saturday in a slight used, mounted one time condition from OH. Hi-mount brushed titanium. His loss, but my gain.

I just can't tell the GF anymore when I am buying stuff. :rolleyes:

Consensus seems to be the FP chip is the way to go. According to Rene-USA their chip has two maps, but a poster in another forum said that the Rene chip is basically a modified stock chip with some of the same problems.

So I think I will just leave the FP in.

I'd call Jeff at CarboTex. You might not like his answer, but at least he's honest. :)
I put the question to him while talking about some other stuff.
First off he said the Renegade pipes suck. Period.
That said, he told me your better off with the FP chip. You should re-synch your throttle bodies, and reset your Co levels.

thanks for the input. I will give Jeff a call.

This is only the second "thumbs-down" I have heard of on the Renegades and the other was a customer service issue which is highly unusual. Not sure the last time the President of a company I bought something from called me to check that I got the product. :(

Nonetheless, I will call Jeff and follow the other advice.

Info?

I tried to call Jeff at Carbotex, but he was not in. I will keep trying.

In the meantime can either of you give me any specifics details? I am already committed to the pipes. I bought them 2nd hand so there is no returning them.

However, I would like to know if there are things to look out for. I understand the installation instructions are a bit slim, but have not heard anything but praise about the product to this point.

Details please, not just opinions. :)

I wish I could give you more info, but I don't know squat about Aprilia, other than I wouldn't mind owning one.
I just happened to be surfing and talking to Jeff at the same time, and put the question to him.
Jeff races or sponsors a Mille and does some pretty extensive testing on products. He is very picky about what he will use. I know some think he is overly opinionated, but I just see it as saying what he thinks. I'd rather have the straight story than some sugar coated BS, ya know?
Keep trying him, you'll catch him sooner or later.
