You can review my other post on this topic for all of the previous background info but here is the latest update and what I have learned about the searching for insurance process. I got a faxed estimate from 7 different companies and after at least 20 phone calls, yes I counted, I decided to follow up on a tip from someone else who posted in the other topic that AllState has independent agents and they will all give you different quotes.

The 6th AllState agent I called quoted me $386 for 6 months full coverage with $500 deductables and uninsured motorist coverage added. (The 1st agent I called quoted me $1189) This is an EXCELLENT rate and I got a signed fax to confirm it. It is only $65 per month. This price I can live with and I am so happy that I finally found reasonable insurance. I am 22, single, 1 ticket, MSF course, AMA member soon and the bike I got quoted was a 1999 Honda CBR 600 F4.

For those of you looking for insurance, especially those under 25 years old, my advice is to call every AllState agent in the phone book within driving distance of you and you will get vastly different quotes. I hope this helps others find good rates too.

Oh cool! That would be me telling you to call every AllState agent. I'm glad you found a decent rate!

Here's something I just found out. If you've got medical insurance through your work or other resource, ask your agent what uninsured motorist (u.m.) coverage is for. In Nevada, u.m. supplies overlapping medical coverage only, not property damage. I have great medical coverage from work already, so my agent told me that u.m. was unnecessary. I removed it from all my policies and it saved me approximately $300 a year. I'm only paying $39 a month for my bike with $100 comp/$500 collision deductibles. It might be worth a look!

I love my Allstate quote of $40 per month w/ MSF, no tickets, and 1 auto wreck (total). But, I do only ride a Katana :( So it's not that fast. :)

I know that when I first went to get insurance several years back, I got screwed by two different agents from American Family and State Farm respectively. Both of them gave me an initial quote and even had me pay the first premium to get the policy started. Within a week, I was notified that there was a mistake in both instances and that the premium was going up between $500-700 per year. In both cases I ended having to get the Att. General involoved as well as the insurance commissioner. Finally several fellow riders gave me some advice on who to use so I checked it out. Strangely enough it was a different State Farm agent. I am now 28 and I pay just under $260 per year for full coverage with $500 deductibles for a 97 Blackbird.

I pay 39 a month for full coverage, uninsured motorist, and a few other small coverage details on my bike with a 500 dollar deductible. I am not complaining at all, especially considering I am still 20 years old.

Thanks, Smokin' Joe!

Hey hey!

Okay, so I've been STUCK in this insurance quagmire trying to get it all figured out. I've called Geico, Progressive, Allstate, Dairyland, AAA and bunch of no-names, and gotten quotes between $350 and <gasp> $760 per month (Progressive)!! Well, I finally found a reasonable rate for full coverage on an f4i from...

State Farm!

They are the shizznit! Following Smokin' Joe's suggestion, I called three Sate Farm agents and the best of those quotes was $107/month for *full coverage.* The only downside is that you have to have an auto on the policy too, but if you ever decide to sell your car, the motorcycle policy is cool by itself. I am so stoked, this means I am one huge step closer to bike realization.

Oh, and all this was done by using the "search" function of SBW. :)

Allstate does have varying rates between different agents and can be a good choice depending on what kind of bike you have. If you have a sportbike (R models at least) be cautious about signing up with them. I got a new policy with Allstate less than a month ago and just this Monday got a letter from them terminating my insurance at the end of the month due to the "High Performance Capibilities" of my '01 ZX6R. (See my post "ALLSTATE Insurance...AAARRRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!" from a couple days ago for the full story, or R-SiXeR's "ALLSTATE insurance MUST read info !")

Needless to say I'm back into the insurance headache and have decided to go with my second original choice which was State Farm. Their quote was actually $250/yr less than Allstate w/ full coverage, but they required a cage policy as well (which i ended up transferring to Allstate anyway for the overall savings). State Farm goes strictly by engine size (cc's) from what I understand and doesn't surcharge for 'high-performance' models like almost all other insurance companies.

Bottom line from my experiences: Allstate = Bad, State Farm = Good

Good Luck!!!
