What kind of gas do you use?

Should I be using premium (top of the line) gas on my 04' SV650s?

still havn't gotten my license yet, between moving and doing an 'address change' through the post office, and waiting for the MSF to mail me my papers I take to the DMV, I still don't have anything.

There is your answer & most of them will say 86 Octane or higher. With my Yamaha YZF 600r, along with the Honda 929 & 954 it is 87 octane & believe me through the years I have tried all the others for better fuel milage, any gain in power or better pulling, to cooler engine & the 87 octane is the answer since way back in '47 & though these 59 yrs of my riding.

Start by using the gas that your manual recomends. If it starts "pinging" which shouldn't happen for thousands of miles, you are getting carbon build up and will need to bump up the octane.

Interesting question. The R6 I borrowed apparently needed 93. I asked why and was told that it knocked with anything less. Sounded like an actual problem with the bike, but I didn't pursue it.

If the mom says 87, use 87. If it pings and its under warranty, take it in and complain. The manuf must abide by their own specifications without cost to you (well, excepting wear items like brakes) :2cents:

It is all about compression. I bumped up the compression in my Beemer to 12:1 and now I have to use 103 so she doesn't knock. I always say premium over 10.5:1 or 11:1. I could be wrong but that is what I have heard. I used to always run C10 in my car when ever I could, and I could bump my boost up to around 20psi and not worry.
