The more I think about it, the more a Twin is appealing to me. My buddy let me take a ride on his '98 Duc 916 and, while it was very uncomfortable, I loved the power of the engine throughout the rpm range. How about a Superhawk? Due to the limited RC51 availability, that would be my nextoption in the world of twins. So how about it...How does the 996 Superhawk perform compared to other bikes. I want lots of power in a "twisty-friendly" platform. Too much to ask? I think not..!! :D

hmmm, there's a world of difference between the Twins and Fours. Your first post you said you loved the high rpm revs; you won't get that on a Twin, the power builds pretty steady (on my VTR anyway) from down low to about 10.5k rpms. You get butt-stomping torque as opposed to a Four's rocket thrust at high rpms. It's a differnce- if you like hyper, screaming engines, you probably won't get into a Twin as much, IMO. But if you have the chance, try it- you might like it :)

Nick, I think you will find the superhawk rider position alot like your F4. They both have comfy seats and footpeg positions. I think the superhawk has a little longer reach to the bars though. Only thing I dont like about the superhawk is the fuel mileage. It gets about 35-40 mpg compared to the 50 mpg your CBR probably got. Believe it or not after buying mine new the availablility of the RC51 isnt as bad as you would've thought. I've seen alot of them for sale with next to no miles on them for right around MSRP. Thats actually pretty good when you think about it because you dont have to go through the pain of breaking it in. I promise if you buy and RC you will NOT be dissappointed. Let me know if thats what you decide. I'll give you some links to a few good classified pages. If you want email me again offline and I'll give you some info about the bike.

It's been awhile since I've started a thread, so here's something that I've been considering lately.

After tossing my "lil" F4, I have decided on buying another bike, although it will be a step up from the 600. I need all your help to choose which one to buy. I know I'm going against ALL logic here by doing what I'm about to do, but hey, Honda isn't the ONLY motorcycle company out there, right?

OK, here is what I've narrowed my choices down to. I wanna stay with the inline-4. I'm not a big twin kinda guy. I love the high-rpm revs and don't think I could ride without 'em! In order of my current preference:

1- Suzuki GSXR750 :D :D :D
2- Honda CBR 929rr
3- Yamaha YZF-R1 :) :) :)

Yes the Yamaha is still last on my short list, mainly due to Yamaha's legendary unreliability (exploding hubs kinda hurt too).

I REALLY am loving the Suzook, but don't know enough about Suzuki to make an educated decision. How are their trannies? How are their engines? I know the mill cranks out some God-awful amounts of power, but is it Honda-reliable? I have focused all my previous years of motorcycle riding, reading, etc...on Honda. So all you Yamaha and Suzuki guys out there need to help me out, k? :D ;)

I definitely would be happy with any of these bikes, and they all look bad-ass. I just wanna know all the good and bads about all of the bikes. Thanx in advance guys. I'll be back in rider form as soon as I can decide what bike to buy, so the sooner you all can help the better.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Since I have only owned Suzuki's I will tell you my thoughts on the most prolific bike of the year 2000 (Also my current bike). The 2000 GSXR-750 is awesome. When you first get on it you will be in awe of the light weight and handeling. The bike flicks from side to side easier than anything I have ridden. The bike loves RPM's and simply excels when riden above 7k RPM's. Suzuki engines have never given me a problem. The 929 is a great bike as well but I prefer the look and most of all the feel of the GSXR. I wish it had the low end that the R1 has but the R1 doesn't have the top end that the GSXR does. The GSXR is the closest to a "race" bike of the three so it can be ran as such. The seat has even been re-done for 2000 and it feels like a gel seat. If you are under six feet tall this bike will not be uncomfortable. If you are a taller rider you may want to check out the Honda.

all i know about the 929 is that everyone tells me my gsxr is faster. i never rode one, but it looks like a cool bike.

the gsxr is comfy, handles great (if you don't make a ton of mid-corner corrections or drag the front brakes through a corner). the bike feels high in the back (for a street bike). the suspension is good at first but a tad soft after break-in (either that or you just start loading it up more).

it's got a hell-strong top-end, but pretty weak below 7000 or so. it's not an r1 in the effortless wheelie world. it'll do 'em easy, just not r1 easy.

many new gsxr owners are whining about the tranny and the cam chain tensioner. i think most are full of it. the tranny is great, way better than any other bike i've ridden. the linkage is set a bit high stock and don't think people are shifting them positively.

the r1 (imo) is the best street bike going. gobs of torque, fun, light, fast, incredible. r1's are awesome. end of story. i wouldn't worry about it being a time-bomb. i don't know anyone personally who any r1 part exploded.

downside to r1's--i think they fall in to corners and i have to correct everytime i dive in (gsxr doesn't do that, but my r1 friends think the gsxr steers a little too quick and fine it a tad unpredictable). the suspension is just like the suzi's fine during break-in, softens up. way too many expensive stuff out there for them (dussalt tail, over rearsets, etc, etc). very uncomfortable. if you're not fat and your girl's not fat, don't get it if you want her to go along. i rode my girl on the back of the rider seat because it was more comfortable for her.

it's the lack of girlfriend riding and the falling in in corners that made me go for the suzi. plus i wanted a suzuki or ducati since i never owned either.

you can also look at the zx9r. looks like a great bike. don't know much about it.

I almost forgot. The suspension feels a little soft at first but when ridden hard it actually stiffens up a little. The bike demands a good rider in the corners. It responds to whatever you do and it turns on a dime so you have to know your line headed into a corner. Also, the bike wheelies as good if not better than any four out there. I'v had it up in third and in first gear I can throttle it up at four grand. The only one I would stay away from is the Kaw.

Hey Nick, heres my thoughts.
R1-too wheelie happy and unpredictable.
Gixxer-just like f2boy stated, no motor below 7k. other than that I still wouldnt buy one just because I dont trust suzuki reliability.
929-best street bike. Comfy, fast, light, attractive looking. If these are you only choices i would definately stick with the 929. Besides once you've ridden Honda quality you dont wanna go back.
ZX9R-Big and heavy. Thats all I'm saying because I've never ridden one.

Too bad about the F4. :( That's a rough way to have to get a new Bike.
The 3 choices you have are all GREAT ones and they all have their own personalities. It's according to your desired style of riding. If possible, ride all 3 on your favorite roads and compare. The R1 was my choice mostly because I like the grunt it has all the way through the power band and it's light handling. It also, to me, :D is a perfect combo of Race/Street manners. Now if I was more concerened with Race, I would go Suzuki and if more for Street, then the Honda. I'm glad I picked the R1 and I imagine whichever one you decide on, you'll LOVE!

My vote is go witht he 929. An option you might want to consider with the 929 is having a Fireblade imported from Europe. Now that you don't see to often around town. The color schemes on the European bikes put a lot of the US schemes to shame. Anyone know why that is? Just not fair.

If you REALLY want to own THE closest thing to an all out racebike, then go with the gixxer...ABSOLUTEY, POSITIVELY, THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS BIKE SOLD FOR THE TRACK...If you want good manners, go with the zx9 and or the 929....The 2000 zx9 is and AWESOME bike..And WAY better looking than the BORING 929...P.S the R! kicks a$$, but you said that you didn't like/trust it...And Suzuki quality is WAY up there too...I checked my valves at 18k and didn't even need any adjustment....All Ive done to my bike at 22k is chain/sprockets
and tires...The other stuff I did because I'm anal!!!!Jimmy G...........................

like most ppl say.. and the massses are usually right.. the r1. my close freind has one.. it does come right over in the twisties.. it was designed to ride hard.. cranked all the way over.. anyways.. no complaints from my good freind.. it rides wheelies all day long. .. but i do think the suzuki y2k 750.. is the besss bike if your lQQking to ride the twisties pretty hard.. its the most race ready for the street.. yet its still comfortable to ride in traffic.. and sit on for a couple of hours.. im six feet tall.. and go on like five hour rides wit a few stops in between and i ride a 98 gixxer wit no complaints.. i luv my bike.. wish it was a 2000.. but im happy.. i like hondas but there like too luxury sport for me.. i dont know.. they juss feel like driving a lexus sc300 or something. instead of feeling like a lamborghini. hehe. :D :D..well anyways.. some already mentioned above. that any one of these bikes nowadays.. are gonna make you happy.. its juss your ego, being able to say you got this or that.. yaknow.. but they all rip..
