This is a picture of a nice, if not a little weird, scooter ridden by a 70 year old 'youngster' in last year's Classic Trophy in Greece.
Can you tell us the brand and model?

Hi Aris,

Looks like you found yet another good trivia. It is the Heinkel Tourist made in Germany. These scooters were built between 1953 and 1965. It looks like the one you took a picture of was built somewhere around 1963.

Here is a short comment on their quality:

"The Heinkel Tourist is probably the most sophisticated vintage scooter out there when it comes to durability and comfort on longer road trips. Its four-stroke 175cc engine takes you up to approx. 60mph. The scooter is very easy to handle while riding, because the engine is in the center of the body giving it very steady tracking compared to a Vespa."

You got it

Andy you re right of course :)
It's the Heinkel Tourist 175. This one is a 1960 model. As you pointed out it has very good handling (for a scooter) because the engine is in the middle of the scooter. The engine is Sachs 2
stroke and it has a chain final drive!
If you look at the shape of the scooter you'll see that not only it reflects the design of the era ( looks like the Zundapp Bella ) it is also very long (like the Bella).
The guy riding it is more than 70s years old but his passion for fun on his bike is stronger than most riders 30 years younger.
He has a 2nd battery, just to be safe, you can see it on the floor between his feet.

I m glad you enjoyed this trivia. I have some trivias coming for you with other bikes from the Classic Rallies here in Greece.
I have some that you can't find ;)
