All these post's about bad rides this weekend...it must have been a full moon.

Yesterday, I went on a ride-out with Ducati Atlanta. We started with 22 bikes at the shop, and were heading North to hook-up with about 30 more, go for a loop through the mountains, then head to Road Atlanta to watch the CCS Races. The first screw-up was the toll booth on GA400. We became fragmented, so I rode pretty much solo to our rendezvous location at the end of the highway. About 10 minutes after I arrive, the main group shows up. One of the guys was on an MV Agusta, and he starts whining that he lost one of his titanium, anodized screws...wwhhaaaaa!!! He leaves, even though the mechanic offered to fix it right there.

We were given instruction from the ride coordinator. A guy from the shop, riding a 929, would lead and the coordinator would bring up the rear with the stragglers. So 50+ bikes jump on Hwy 19, with our first stop being the summit of Blood Mountain.

I was about mid-pack and was following a guy on an ST4 "demo" from the shop. He cooks it into a turn and put his foot out! The bike was all out of shape, but he made it through the turn. So I jump ahead of him and I'm giving him signals and screaming at him to slow down (like he could hear me, but I was a little excited). On the next straight, he passes me on the right side of the lane. I figured I didn't want to be a part of that, so I pass him and bolt up the mountain. About 15 minutes after the first group reaches the summit, we heard that there was a rider down. For some reason, we figured it was the ST4...it was. He threw it off an embankment, totalled the bike, but fortunately wasn't injured. Wait, it gets better!!! They go back down and load the bike onto the trailer (we had support drivers), and they put the guy on a new KTM Duke thinking it was smaller, lighter, not as powerful, so therefore easier to ride. TWO (2) miles later, he finds a decreasing radius turn and does some more off-roading. This time he breaks bones. Cops, Ambulance, Fire Dept., blah-blah-blah...chaos.

Unbelievable, a guy totals two new bikes only 30 minutes into the ride. I think the guy should take up bowling, but I don't think he could keep the ball in his lane!

I leave with about 15 riders over to T.W.O. to grab some lunch, then we were going to continue to Road Atlanta. We leave down the mountain and I'm following a guy on a new GSXR-750. Going into a turn, I watch his brake light come on, the bike stands-up and phwoosh...off the road. Fortunately, only scrapes on his bike, and he was okay.

After all that, I figured it would probably be a wise decision to go home.

There were a total of eight (9) wrecks in the North Georgia mountains yesterday, thankfully none of them were fatal. Wierd huh???

Now Paul, don't be riding with those people who might take you out before our trip this fall! No excuses this time. ;) Scary stuff.

Paul, what does that say about that group, that they felt the need to have a clean-up crew follow behind--kinda like those scoops in bowling that gather up the fallen pins huh. Set 'em up.

Is this Dealer nuts?? Just think about the cost of all these bikes not to mention the liability problems. He is really not doing the sport much of a service letting people go out and injure themselves on bikes they can't control.

Au contraire, it was "they" that did the sucking. :D

Paul, seriously, I'm glad you made it back unscathed by the antics of your friends. ;)

I really want to know why the dealer gave that guy another bike! What was he thinking? One down it is time to send the guy home. Anyway I road Friday and Saturday on Deals Gap and the Cherohala Skyway with no problems. It must be a GA thing. :D

I'm suprised he's not the Honda forum moderator--He should be an authority on Honda, God knows he's owned 'em all. :D

You are lucky you made it through unscathed. Sounds like that rider was in over his head, but wouldn't admit it. Too bad. Anyway, up here it rained all weekend...at least you could ride. We have floods and other assorted weather demons about! ;)
