I recently just bought my GSXR-750 K7 BLACK/BLUE I want to wash it because i recently had to work out in palm desert and it got all dusty and looks like I got sand on it too. I dont wanna scratch my new bike at all how should I go about washing it. Should I use a spray bottle to spray down the bike with water? or just use a hose what are some ideas, suggestion I would be greatly appreciated. I just dont want to scratch up my paint.

New sponge/mitt for certain. I have specific sponges/mitts for specific vehicles depending on how much I care about their finish.

Spray with a low volume but high pressure, achieved with a particular type of hose nozzle. Only spray one section at a time, following immediately with a light sponging, followed again by the spray.

End the whole thing with a very mild wax and/or polish. My running preference is Zaino though a lesser second option that is local-store available is the blue stuff (Zymol?); both good for dark colors.

EDIT: Using the local car wash is fine if you don't mind the fine (or worse in nasty circumstances) scratches that result from other vehicles' grit left on their scrubbing devices. Everyone has their own take on what's acceptable.

I was my bike just like a car: Low pressure water and a wash mitt with carwash soap.

I do put a piece of tape over the ignition key hole and I make sure to run it around the block after Im done to dry the brakes and clear the chain which I lube lightly afterwards for good measure.

towel over inst cluster and clip-ons. put a bag over my pc3. then using a hose, rinse the bike really good. make sure the bike is cool and hasent been riden lately. rinse the bike one more time. spray the wheels good too.

doing this in the shade is highly reccomended.

wash top down. saving the lower fairings the end. keep rinsing as your washing. making sure there is plenty of water and no drying spots. wash the lowers. then wash the rims. use a seperate wash mit for the wheels, then only use that mit for your wheels. rinse the bike for the last time. chamois dry. remove the towel over the clip-ons and inst cluster, remove bag over pc3 (if you have one). now finish drying the bike. hop on the bike, start it up. and lean from side to side to get any puddles of water to drip out. make sure you dont slip and drop your bike. if you have an air compressor, this will help in drying. turn off bike.

re dry the bike again with the chamois. now using a towel and dry the rims, swingarm, and under sub frame.

now apply some wax, or paint sealant. i prefer paint sealant as it lasts ALOT longer and gives a better glossy shine.

done, now take a few pics for us to see.


and please dont go to a car wash to wash the bike. 1st cant bring a bucket and wash mit on a bike. 2nd, the brushes at a car wash suck balls. picture this: a beater redneck rusted piece of crap car jkust got washed. imbedded in the bristled of the brush is all his old rust and car body parts. now your going to scrub your pimp azz bike with that. here comes scratches form hell if you do.


trust me man, i detail lamborghini's, bently's, messerratti's, bughatti's, rolls royces, and hummers for a living on a daily basis.
