Warning to all

The following is long but is important. It appears to be authentic. I got the letter from www.insanespeed.com.

My name is Captain Abraham Sands of the Jacksonville, Florida Police Department. I have been asked by state and local authorities to write this email in order to get the work out to car drivers of a very dangerous prank that is occurring in numerous states.

Some person or persons have been affixing hypodermic needles to the underside of gas pump handles. These needles appear to be infected with HIV positive blood. In the Jacksonville area alone there have been 17 cases of people being stuck by these needles over the past 5 months. We have verified reports of at least 12 others in various states around the contry. It is believed that these may be copycat incidents due to someone reading about the crimes or seeing them reported on the television. At this point no one has been arrested and catching the perpetrator(s) has become our top priority.

Shockingly, of the 17 people who where stuck, 8 have thested HIV positive and because of the nature of the disease, the others could test positive in a couple years. Evidently the consumers go to fill their car with gas, and when picking up the pump handle get stuck with the infected needle.

IT IS IMPERATIVE TO CAREFULLY CHECK THE HANDLE of the gas pmp each time you use one. LOOK AT EVERY SURFACE YOUR HAND MAY TOUCH, INCLUDING UNDER THE HANDLE. If you do find a needle affixed to one, immediately contact your local police department so they can collect the evidence. PLEASE HELP US BY MAINTAINING VIGILANCE AND BY FORWARDING THIS EMAIL TO ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO DRIVES. THE MORE PEOPLE WHO KNOW OF THIS THE BETTER PROTECTED WE CAN ALL BE.

As much of an urband legend as the dirty needles in theater seats, or the rat-dog that ate the lady's cat, or the kidney thieves. Sorry John.

not to mention the poison on pay phones and the ball of tinfoil with gas soaked rag tossed into unsuspecting cars to set the driver ablaze..

PLEASE!!!!

I am by NO means an admin here but may i suggest that certain guidelines be established on SBW to hold its members to a standard of NOT posting/spreading urban legend CHAINLETTERS or silly joke emails reposted on the forums.

SBW is about Sportbikes, cant we try to keep it there. If i want to read warnings and rumors about silly social terrorism scares and random joke fwds i can go to a zillion places on the web.

I like to think of SBW as a safe refuge from this, but maybe that is now lost.

Hondas, particularly 900rr's, SUCK! :D

to me, the scariest things about urban legends is that there people out there who'd make them urban realities.

Tony

the views and opinions expressed by tony (cbrf2boy) are the ramblings of a total idiot. sbw.com, it's administrators, moderators, and members don't necessarily agree with and are not responsible for anything this idiot has to say.
Obvisouly an urban legand....but if you ever hear about HIV contaminated anything set out as a trap - its not true - no need to panic. The virus is very fragile and only survives a few minutes at best outside the body. Hepatitus C survives the longest at about 23 minutes. I'm not infected with any of them but have a strong background in occupational safety and health.

Hope this will make people less alarmed about those chain-mail reports.

This is the Captain speaking. The Kick John's Ass Express has reached its final destination... GreenNinja can leave over the port bow. :D :p :D

It is the Chat forum GN, you know the one for non bike related discussions. ;)

I seriously thought about sending this to Will and Robert first. Damn I should have because you guys are mean-- just down right mean. :)

Pete at least injected(pardon the pun) humor in his slam. :)

Dave thanks for the info., my wife is out of town so I couldn't get her input. They keep up to date with this crap in the Emer. Room. :)

I am a Health and Safety Manager but we don't deal with Bloode Borne pathogens. I use consultants for that... are you busy the next couple of days. :D

GreenNinja,

I just thought of it. His name is Dale Quarterly(sp). Guy was an animal at Loudon. Thought I was never going to think of that. :)

hey folks,
There is no set policy on posting these kinds of things, mainly because if you start making a bunch of rules it gets harder for the moderators to do their jobs, because they have to check a bunch of rules.

Obviously if this starts getting out of hand then we'll add something to the Posting Guidelines about urban legends and the like.

Just use your best judgement. If it sounds weird or you aren't sure:
1. check www.urbanlegends.com
2. ask someone else before posted (via email)

If you guys think it should be made into a policy, let the moderators know and they can forward it on to me (I get enough email :D)

Thanks
WIll

GreenNinja, no flame intended here, but as the description of this forum reads, it is for non-sportbike related topics. No one is forcing you to open this forum and read its contents. Think of all the SBW forums except this one as your "safe haven".

b carefull about people trowing sparkballz in your face mask when its up. & did u hear about the lobster chick?

so 999 out of 1000 of these stories are made up. but what if he had info on something that was real & what if he didnt post it & what if u or your kids or your mom or your girlfriend was a victim? bet u wish it was posted then. treat these types of posts like wwf.. its fake but entertaining (not for me but for some anyway). i wont mention the fact this is an OFF topic forum. also bet u were glad about all the love bug warnings.. how many virus alerts do u get? the 1 out of a thousand probably saved u a great deal of frustration & work.

Thats awsome you're a Health & Safety Manager. Thats what I always wanted to do and where I would like to live(grew up all across the south & most all my family is in TN). Guess I was never good enough to get a job in the field but keep up with it a lot and have a MS in it. I love what I do but that grass sure is much greener in TN!

Well this IS the off topic chat forum and I cant find a reason to ban it. Urban Legend stuff is not my thing either, but no harm/ no foul... Its all about freedom, peace and love man! :D

First of all this IS the Chat forum any
kind of reasonable topic is accepted here,
including those not about sportbikes.

Let me just say that I posted and CHANGED
the most enraged message ever in my 700
plus posts here on SBW. I am trying to deal
with this as adult as possible, and if I
didn't feel that I have a example to uphold
as a moderator I would break out the BIG
GUNS and leave the message.

Green Ninja - Everyone has a right to do as
they see fit. No one I repeat NO ONE has
a right to tell someone else how to post,
ride, live their lives. The greatest thing
about this site is the loose management that
allows us all to express our opions without
judgement. You are thwarting this every
other message. Please have an open mind and
try to let other's be. You can't change
them or the world anyway. No one wants to be
told what to do. Everyone here is a person
with opinions just like you but no one is
trying to tell you what to post until now.
I am asking that you limit your opinions
about other peoples actions to yourself.

It is a great way to create bad attitudes on
a Forum; above any junk mail or chain
letters. So please enjoy yourself and let
go of the reigns.

Chris

I'll just add:

I was once told by a wise man "If ya dont like it, dont read it".

Luckily, Im the Moderator of this forum and IMO, damn near anything goes as long as its not viciously racial, sexist or profane. We all know what's proper and what is'nt.

-Oh ya, You cant say bad things about Hondas in here either! :D

Oh no Pete, that's okay. Because John's Mother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Wife are all the same person. So it's really not that offensive to him. :D :D

You're slow, and your mother dresses you funny.
Let's get one thing straight here, in my blissful ignorance I thought that letter could be real.

I WAS NOT PURPOSEFULLY SPREADING URBAN LEGENDS NOR EXPRESSING AN OPINION.

And as was mentioned, I would have been upset if this turned out to be real and I hadn't said anything. :)

Now I appreciate the backup but I did not mean for this to turn into the Kick Green Ninja's Ass Express either.

I like most think Kyle J. has enough sense to stop a post that could be damaging. :)

BBQ Dave if you were not BSing me about the TN area and an MS in the H & S field then feel free to send me a resume off line and I will pass the word. Hell you are more qualified than I am for my job. ;)

Chris tipped his hand on bashing Hondas. He does it because he has too much time on his hands since he can't ride the Yamaha... shit keeps falling off of those things. :D :D

PLUS, we all fight like brothers. Isn't that interesting. :p :D

If this abuse continues we are going to have to have a GROUP HUG. You all know where those can lead. More butt grabbing... me and my thong... Pete with KY and surgeons gloves. Oh I added the Pete with KY thing. :p :D :p
