That time is approaching and I've always done mine myself. But I've also always had this nagging feeling I should let a professional do it at least once to see if my refund grows substantially.

Anyone have experience doing both ways? I use software, of course, to do mine and I know they can look back over previous years to ensure I didn't miss anything.

Thoughts, help, disparaging comments? :D

I do ours every year, and the software has already arrived for this year. I usually run them about three ways to see which gets us the biggest refund, and now that there aren't multiple states involved, it's not such a headache.

spicersh has wondered if having a professional would substantially increase our return and if it would be offset by fees or not. :dunno:

ive been told the software gets about the same return as a professonal..

But, i have many many complicated deductions based on working for the railroad.. I rather just pay my and many other railroaders tax man to do it right than me forgetting somethin.. He only charges 100 bux so its nothin to complain about!
