To celebrate the World Endurance Championship’s first visit to the People’s Republic of China and the debut of international motorsport in that country, key figures from the Chinese motorcycle industry welcomed the international media to a presentation of their future business plans.
Zongshen is a name familiar to World Endurance followers, and also to many Asian motorcyclists. With eighteen thousand employees producing fifteen million motorcycles a year from fifty two factories, this should come as no surprise. There are currently 160 different models in the Zongshen line-up, and sales are split roughly fifty-fifty between China and the rest of the world. They are planning to have a range of big bikes available within three years.

Jinan Qingqi sell around five hundred thousand bikes a year, with twenty five models available in China and six on sale in Europe. A 400cc to 600cc bike will be ready inside three year. Wanch is the brand of the Guangzhou Kauiai Auto Industrial company. They manufacture two hundred thousand motorcycles a year, mostly selling on the home and Asian markets. Their plans include the manufacture of 600cc to 750cc bikes in the next five years.

Finally, the Yuan Group make around two hundred thousand motorcycles every year, with their main markets being Asia, South Africa and South America. Like their competitors, they plan to launch bigger models in the near future, and the Yuan Group has set up a technology development centre in Italy to further this aim.
