Hey everyone. I'm considering buying an 06 636 with 8000 miles on it. However, it was used primarily as a track bike. He held on to the stock plastics and everything so I can bring it back to street legal form. I'm just wondering what I should really worry about in buying someones track bike. Thanks a lot.

Depends on how it was maintained how many track days it has on it. You should also check to see what coolant it was running, if its water wetter you better make sure that it was removed before the winter.

My 05 636 did dual duty and I usually did an oil change after every one or two track days. I ended up selling it with 6800 miles on it with 11 track days for 4800.

it prolly has lost 5-10hp over its life, as like any other bike.... does it have a title?
Track bikes are possibly stolen bikes because they dont need to be state registered, I think....

Having owned both street, and track bikes I can say this...most track day riders take very good care of their bikes, i.e. reg oil changes, making sure everything is within spec ect. As long as he has the correct paperwork for the bike, and it's in good cond. i.e. no bad wrecks, I'd go for it. Oh another thing, if the bike has been unregistered for some time, and depending on your state, you incure penelties when you go to register it, so take that into account re: the price.

I don't think that most track bikes are stolen bikes. What you will find with a lot of track only bikes is that they are salvage title bikes.
