OK, I got my FZR last summer. The guy who sold it to me told me "I had it jetted for the micron(a full race system), stage 2, I think". Well shortly after PAYING for the bike my brother informs me that it looks like my bike is running "a tad lean" and asks me if I would like him to look at it. Well me being the dipshit I am I say not now, we'll look at it this winter, well we didn't.
Tonight we decide to take a look at the carbs cuz my bike's (still) off the road for maintenance.
I remove the airbox and spend a half-hour trying to take off the carbs (my first time). After I admit that I know nothing about carb work my brother laughs at me calls me a moron and has them off in 2 minutes.
Another 2 minutes later I hear, and I quote "well that’s not a good sign".
One of the rubber diaphragms that pull up the slide and open up the main jet(?) had a 1/4 hole in the seal, effectively REMOVING THE USE OF THE MAIN JET. ok so 4 minutes in the carb's and we find that one cylinder was doing very little, cool I had a triple and a half.
Well out of pure morbid curiosity we decide to take a close look at every jet/main. And yep, bone stock *sigh*,so now we have a very (and I do mean VERY) lean running triple and a half (maybe less I'm not sure). But that’s not where it ends for this poor tortured man. More of an amusing side note than a problem, the man I bought the bike from did indeed have someone look at the carbs, that’s why the diaphragm was ripped, he pinched half of it when he screwed it on. AND the "jetting" the man talked about, well the mixture screws were played with, but with no real sense of purpose, two were turned 2 and 1/2 out (that’s where they are suppose to be) one was 3 and 1/2 and one was almost 5! turns out.
The good: When things are fixed my bike will be much better than when I started working on it (AKA faster
)
The bad: umm.. Yeah, you know, the whole carb thing prity much sucked.
The ugly: Me, trying to take off my carbs
Wish me luck.
