I recently saw in the autotrader a 1997 (or '98, i'm not sure) Suzuki TL 1000 dressed up to look like a Ducati 916/996. It had bodywork matching the Duc's closely, underseat exausht and a single sided swingarm. Is there a company that sells such a conversion kit? If so, is it a quality product and not some butch job? Is the bikes performance and/or useability adveresly affected?

The bike was well priced (about 7 grand i think) considering the milage and what must have been invested to modify it. I know some people might scoff at the idea of such a conversion and think it was cheesy, but I think the bike looked good and would be a unique ride. I like the 996 body style and the Suzuki could be made to look like a unique Suzuki and not a lame inferior Ducati copy. I would by a real 996 if I could and was willing to tolerate the touring and comfort drawbacks.

I don't know much about TL's. What's their performance like compared to a TL-R?

I saw a yellow one at Deal's Gap done like that except without the single sided swingarm. It looked pretty cheesy to me but I'm not a fan of using Ducati body parts on something other than a Ducati. :)

BTW, when I say cheesy I am referring to the workmanship and not the look itself(in this case at least). ;)

I posted the same question on another sportbike website and got a few responses from a guy in my area who knows of the bike and has seen it. He says it's a quality custom and really well done. He posted the picture below and the text from the ad. The price is in Canadian dollars, which would be a real deal for any Americans interested. I should add most people who've seen the bike seem to think it's a nice Suzook custom and not a wannabe Duc.

Heres another picture from a response to the thread. The guy said this was a Honda Hawk GT that the owner put a bunch of 916 parts on after replacing the parts on his 916 with Ohlins, Marvic, etc..

The Honda was posted on the other site by some dude who listed his location as -"MV,MA". So, it's not from Ottawa...Massachusets maybe?
