Motorcyclist Killed In Sterling Heights Crash
Driver Arrested At Crash Scene

POSTED: 12:46 pm EDT May 11, 2006
A 48-year-old Romeo man was killed in a crash in Sterling Heights early Thursday morning.

The man was driving a 2001 Honda motorcycle northbound on Van Dyke Avenue at 17 Mile Road at about 2:44 a.m. when he was hit by a 2006 Dodge pickup truck traveling east on 17 Mile Road, according to Sterling Heights police.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The pickup truck driver, a 20-year-old Rochester Hills man, was arrested at the scene, police said. Charges in the case will be presented to the Macomb County prosecutor's office Thursday, police said.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The names of the drivers were not released.

hmmmmm lets see...new dodge ram...20 year old kid...blows a red light no doubt at 2:44am...was alcohol involved. I'd say a 90% chance that was the case. GOTTA watch out when you think your alone in the middle of the night, you let you guard down and that's when you get plowed. Poor kid. RIP.

I was on 696 driving the left middle lane around 3 AM a few years back. Some kid got on the expressway behind me, fell asleep at the wheel, came across 3 lanes WHILE accelerating and pit maneuvered me at 75mph. I must have slid sideways in the car 300 feet before getting control again and pulling over. Because he was in my blind spot, I didn't see him coming until just before he hit me. Now when it's late (especially on a bar night) I'm as cautious as I can be and alert at all times as to where cars are. I don't like any cage around or near me late at night. Shit happens in the blink of an eye. :2cents:

He was the father of my boss's son's best friend (sorry...) He just got done telling me the whole story right before I opened up the board. At least it was instant. Police said it wouldn't have mattered even if he was in his truck, he would still be dead.
RIP
