Looks like two plus the laptop.

I sit at a computer all day long and barely use the systems I have at home. I plan to use my dual monitors along with a KVM to minimize computing footprint in my home computer space. This greatly reduces capital costs as you only need two instead of four monitors (presuming you don't go beyond dual monitor setup).

24s would be nice but are overkill for me. For photo and video editing, it would seem a must-have. Toshibas?

Thats what I thought, but wanted to hear it from morpheus himself.

I'm in a simular situation at work, and dont have a home computer at all. I hardly ever miss it, except for looking up the occasional fact to settle an argument, or a new recepie of sorts. My gf now needs one for college work, so I'm on a lookout for a laptop, since I just cant stomach the idea of a "computer desk" at home. I dont see it ever needing to leave the house, but I'd really like something that can move from room to room and couch to couch, instead of staying locked in one spot. The more casual the better. I cant seem to find anything thats more suited for that application (A workstation with a wireless tablet like screen and controls would be ideal, but alas no one makes such a thing) if anyone knows of anything, please speak up.

What is a KVM? Is that one of those switches that connects two computers to a single set of monitor keyboard and mouse?

Yeah, that's what a KVM is. Keyboard, video, mouse :)

If a used laptop will do, I'd recommend cruising the school's for sale forum (sometimes wiki, sometimes newsgroup, sometimes forum). There are really great deals to be had, particularly around end of semesters.

Yeah, currently have two desktops with laptop at my main desk. I have another 2-3 computers in the house, but I don't use them daily (cept for [email protected]).

I'm waiting on some new parts that I bought this week (new motherboard, video card, gigabit switch, cables) to truly have all 4 monitors on one machine. Then once the new Intel Quad cores come out, I'll rebuild my main desktop system with all the works.

I do a lot of coding and photo editing so it's a good investment for my needs. I plan on getting a nice HD video camera by the end of the year and learn to play around with video editing content.

Just more toys to play with. ;)

So my error all along in typing PC meaning "Personal Computer" when in fact said computers most of you respond from is your own business compter or computer from where you work.

Like the friends around my area, to in our gun Club all have their own personal computers they use at home & at home only. This I know from when they purchased the computer, to showen me what they had or what they were purchasing to some of their problems or us passing information to each other. As I have all the compter addresses of Club members, to the executive each year to also be devided off to h/gun members---being our way of commuting with each other, to special rush meetings, to infor we have for each other in reloading, & such.

Also I know if one of them uses their business computer I will answer to their home computer as two different addresses.

Two have computers in their line of work such as the person that handles my monies, to an executive that is a lawyer, to several chaps that have purchased a m/c or a new cage & might use his personal business computer to give out a quck message, though basically all use their home computers.

So there is a difference & I did not realize it. Sorry, but my error.

PC still describes business computers. The term became apparent when the computer industry started to make individual computers instead of having just a terminal/mainframe. Business computers are mainly called workstations while PC can describe both workstations and personal computers.

Now days, they just differentiate between Mac and Non-Mac computers. Even then, that's a stretch now that hardware on both are the same. To be politically correct, best to just say what OS you run, windows, linux, unix, osx, etc...

The monitors are 24" Soyo's. First two I got were 300 a piece + tax, and the third one I just got this week was 254+ tax. Can't beat the value.
