Anyone have any opinions on rear stands; is it better to use spools, or the "L" shaped brackets that adjust to various swingarms? Or does it make a difference?

Thinking of getting one here shortly, but wanted to seek the valued opinions of fellow riders.

i have the "L" shaped one.....

and it sucks..if it wernt for the spool fitting on my swing arm, this thing would have let the bike slide to the end of the swing arm...

get the one that requires spools....

Really? Thanks for the heads up. Does the weight of the bike compress the shock enough where the swingarm slides?

I shall certainly use this info when buying my stand. Thanks again.

I see spools for sale on various sites listed by size in milimeters. Are most japanese bikes the same MM size? Most common were 8 & 12mm.

the button ones will be ALOT faster and more stable to use once you set them up over the universal ones. I'm fairly sure the mounts for the spools on the 6R are 12mm.

With the universal ones (a la LP) it takes a bit more effort to lift the bike onto it. First you gotta get the pads on the swingarm, not the chain, then slide it back until you hit the spool mounts  to make the lift points spread out enough to fit the back of the swingarm, then you can lift and hope one slide doesn't slip forward.

With the "L" style, you just position the spools in the "L" 's and lift. done.

Not all jap bikes use the same size bolts to hold the spools on. Most of the Kaw's(6R, 9R, 12R) are 12mm. I know the GSXR's are 8mm and I think that Honda & Yamaha are 8mm as well.

Pit Bull now make the little "upper thingies" that can be flipped over and used for spools or as a standar.

Good idea for those that have multiple bikes. :)
