i'm a relatively short guy at 5'6. i owned a '91 katana last summer and the seat height was perfect even with the spring or shock set to the hardest level (thanks to the previous owner). i sold it to my buddy and now i'm looking for a GSX-R 600 or an R6. i was wondering if i'm too short for one of them because i'm not sure if the seat can be lowered or not. i don't care if i look small on one as long as i can touch the ground and keep the bike upright at a red light. i'm not sure how high my katana seat was, but i'm guessing 30 inches or so.
could someone could tell me if i'm too short, or if the seat can be lowered?
thanks

Well, I know quite a few people your height or shorter that ride these bikes, so you're definitely not too short. :)

Here are some options:
1) Don't lower it, just get used to either being on the balls of your feet or hang off one side and support the bike with one leg.
2) shave foam off the seat.
3) Buy a Corbin or Sargeant seat that are supposed to be shorter.
4) lowering kits are available, just make sure to lower the front proportionally to the rear so the handling is relatively unaffected.

5'6" isn't too short to ride an R6... my ex was 5'5" and rode a 900RR... I'm 5'1" and I ride an F4 :) (mine was lowered 1 & 3/4"). At 5'6" you should have no trouble being at least solid on the balls of your feet.

I would not be so worried about the seat height. As long as you can get a foot down to hold it up at a red light.

I'm 5'6" with a 30" inseam, I just started riding a 02' ZX9R with a saddle height of about 32.5". The Ninja is a bit hard to back up on a hill and I'm only able to get flat footed when I put one leg down. But, the BIG plus is the cockpit fit. When I'm up on the bike my short legs are a perfect tuck from peg to tank.

You spend 99% of your time in the cockpit, that's the fit you really want to be comfortable.
