According to the article, he was cut off by a truck he was passing on a N Carolina highway. Terrible news.

That truly sucks. Goes to show you even the
best can fall victim. It only takes 1/2 a
second. My deepest concern for all of this
family and friends. Be careful out there
guys. I know I took a trip to North Jersey
this weekend (Where I am now) and I took my
chances - when I got tired of traffic I
started weaving alot at 100+. (I) Need to be
more careful.

Chris :(

McQuide died???? That really suck's!!!!
How many of us watched him highside the gsxr750 on the latest edition of Motorcyclist? Then John Burns took a harmless potshot at him saying "the bike is faster then the rider even at a moderate pace" I felt bad for him then and now I'm really bummed out, And I don't even know the guy.
My condolences to his family & friends.

I can't believe it...

I just met him at the Hoot this past Friday morning. He was at breakfast conducting a Q+A session on high performance bikes.

I've enjoyed his work in Motorcyclist, it was fun to see him play the role of the FNG at the magazine. Very friendly guy, he didn't even flinch when I approached him and said, "Hey, you're Greg McQuide!"

Then, on Saturday morning, we grabbed an Asheville paper that said a 30 year old man was killed on I-40 trying to avoid a truck. Man, that really bothers me... my condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.

It really hits home when something like this happens. Expert rider, good guy, probably doing nothing wrong. It shows one of the more special aspects of motorcycling to me; it feels like you've lost a good friend even though most of us only know him from his writing and TV. I think I'll always remember the sheepish grin he had on his face after the highside on national TV. He seemed like a good guy and will definitely be missed. God speed, McQuide. :(

I just realized what my quote is on the bottom of my posts. Please don't think I'm being insensitive, it's my stock message.

Condolences to the family and friends of Greg McQuide.

Wish there were more specific details about the circumstances available in the article because laying down a bike is last on the list of avoidance techniques. It doesnt sound right. That trooper may be drawing an erroneous conclusion. Questions about speed, direction and position of each vehicle, road type and conditions, or right of way are not addressed. Did McQuide make some critical error or was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Motorcyclists want, no, need to know.

I was shocked when I got my September issue of Motorcyclist magazine to see that McQuide is still featured, with no mention of his death. On top of this, there is an article by one of the editors about a friend of his being killed on a motorcycle and his relative distaste for SUVs. That and the August issue showing McQuide all banged up in his "First Aid" article is kinda eerie.

there's a big lag time for that magazine. i remember reading a mid-season summary in like the novemebr issue.

the only print mag i've seen that's fast is roadracingworld.

What's really bad is in the front of the mag where they list the editors' names and job positions they always put down something humorous for McQuide like "Healing Nicely", or "Going Down Hard". Does anyone have the July issue to see what that one says?

So sad.
For one, I just started reading MOTORCYCLIST and I was just getting to like all the writers. And its so ironic and sad that the new issue Mitch Boehm talks about how Scottt Reif (who works for Honda's R&D) was killed in a similar manner.

My wish would be that these two tragic events will have some impact on all of the drivers who choose not to be responsible behind the wheel, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. How many more will have to die before people wake up?
