Hello everyone, im new to this site. I ride a 03' XB9R and have a question and im hoping that someone here can give me some good advice. I was riding alone from Las Vegas to Denver and I failed to watch my speed and a cop in Utah picked me up going 95mph. Even though I was clean, much to my surprise he cuffed me had the bike towed and took me to jail, and I was charged with reckless driving. Im from Los Angeles so will this hit my driving record since I have a California licence and this happend in Utah??
Also im going back next year in Jan' to fight it, anyone have any advise/tips. Thanks for any info...

I don't think it will go against your record as far as points are concerned (insurance), but it will prevent you from getting another license if you don't take care of it.

Utah will put a flag against your SS# in Cali and if you get pulled over or try to get another license they will really put the wood to you.

Whether you fight it or pay it, clear it off your record.

I would call the DA of the city/county you were arrested in and see if maybe you can plead to a lower charge (speeding) and get the RD dismissed. You might be able to do it through the mail and not have to make the drive back to Utah just to write them a monster check for fines.

I'm not a lawyer, it might be worth a few bucks to consult with one though, it might save you a few bucks in the long run.

Later,
Eric

Some years ago I got a reckless for a spot of street racing in Jersey. Beat it in court by the definetion of reckless being "endangering the lives of others." No others were around, so....... Maybe this helps.

That cop was a full on PRICK.

RD my ass, that's morning commute speed here in SoCal right.

Get a lawyer and pay him well to shove that citation as far as possible back up the cop's @@@.

Call several lawyers and go with the one who gives you the best sounding response to the charge for court.

Best of luck.

That cop sure was a real ass.

I was riding on the interstate15 with no other cars so how reckless could I be?
I asked him If I could just get a speeding ticket and be on my way, and he told me in a sarcastic Utah accent, "you'd like that wouldn’t you" I’ve learned he cant search me until im arrested, so this guy assumed I had drugs or weapons. Even though him and his dog didn’t find anything, he still wins since im stuck with bigger fines.

Lets all learn from this, whenever riding solo far from home be careful. I had to pay $555 bail, and it had to be cash. I had to pay a bail bonds guy $93 bucks on top of the $555. then it was another $140 to get my bike out of the tow which also had to be cash.

I've contacted a lawyer, and might use one. Im hoping the cop wont show and the judge dismisses this bull$hit charge.

thanks for all the input guys.

As much as I hate to say it, stick with a lawyer. The cop will show, the judge won't give a rats ass about you, a reckless charge is not a good thing on the record and the money you pay a lawyer will be less than the extra money you'll pay for insurance on your car/truck/bike over the next few (many?) years. Sorry my man.

Same thing happened to only I wasnt even going that fast! I spent a good while in jail and had my bike towed. I spent 1,000 on my bond, and 250 to get my bike back. I have a laywer now and my court date is in early november, good luck to you and me!

most of us "honest" people would like to think that if you're nice and honest enough, then between the law officer and the judge, you'll get what you deserve, and not a bit more.....WRONG!!!!!
I got fucked up the ass by the stinking lying cop and the "magistrate" told me i appeared too calm to have been so wronged....I used to be a military cop, it's called military bearing...
Anyway, get a lawyer, ask around and find one that specializes in traffic stuff....i'd rather pay a lawyer a little bit of money than ever get that fucked again......
