I hope this is not a stupid question, but I'm missing something here. I've tried several times to adjust my rear view mirrors and all I can see in them is my shoulders/arms or way out to the side. I can't get them adusted where I can see cars behind me. Maybe I'm not riding in the correct position, but I can't seem to find many variations other than holding my arms down and tucking in lower. I assume I should be be able to see cars behind me in them right?

Thanks a lot.

If they pivot at the fairing and at the mirror, which most do. the best you can do is pivot the arms as far out as possible and then adjust the mirror "in".

If you've already done this and still can only see your elbows, you should check out the accessory section at Checkers. There you can get mirror extensions for RV's which easily clip onto your existing mirrors.:p

hope that helps

It'a just trial and error, sometimes my mirrors fall out of my preferred position, and if it's the left one, I can slowly fix it while riding, pending no traffic around. But basically, get a car behind you or go on an empty road and imagine which angle would be best to see if there was a car behind you. You're not going to get 100% visibility from your mirrors, half of it gets hidden my shoulders and arms. So you might have to weave your head or torso to get a better view of traffic. And most important, still keep in habit of head checking when in doubt.

I think I'll skip the extentions :D

I have them adjusted now pretty well. I have to pull my elbows down and tuck in a bit to get a full view, but it is much better than before. Trial and error is correct. Thanks for the help.

Yes, elbows in helps and is proper position anyway, but the mirrors also need to be turned pretty far out. That helps with the ability to see the lane next and directly behind. Trying to cover too much view directly behind will just give you a good view of your arm and fat belly, reminding you that it's time to actually do what your New Year's promise was and diverting your attention from driving. ;)
