I've heard of this happening to a LOT of 2001 R1's and R6's. Yamaha has fixed all the ones I heard of. Call their customer support directly. Only problem is, you may have waited too long. Give it a try. Hope it works out.


Buy Kawasaki!!! they are indestructable.

 

I talked to the service guy today, he's like ok well yes your 2nd Shift fork was bent, so was your 3rd, your 2nd gear was missing teeth, and 3rd and 4th gears. The Clutch needs to be replaced and ya'll be set.

Seriouly though how many miles did you have on your bike. I'm @ 15,000 with no problems.

Had the same problem with my R6!!!
Wrote to Yamaha, and their responce is that I get a local Yamaha dealer to strip the gearbox and send them their findings. I have to cover this cost! So while they've stripped the gearbox, they may aswell fix the problem!?! And I dont know if Yamaha will even cover the cost for the parts.
The quote I've recieved is : Labour-£396, Parts-£150.

No, mines a 99.
The pisser is that I've never really abussed it, I've looked after it well, and had it regularly serviced.
I'm still doing 100 miles a day on it, I just don't push it in second.
It's been booked in to be fixed on the 20th May.
