I have a 99 gsxr750 with some scratches on the left side panel or whatever you wish to call it... i am wanting to replace it .. i heard that you could take the plastics off a gsxr600 and put them on a 750 can you? it seems logical to me but im still a newbie to sportbikes any help would be appreciated.. also where would be a good place to find this type of thing?

yup, u can change em w/600's. a friend of mine had a 600(yellow) & a 750(red) (both 99's) he gave the 600 to his brother but wanted yellow so he changed all the body work over but the tank would not swap do to the fi of the 750... just scratches how about a polish & maybe a repaint.. factory body work gets pricey.

I just posted a message in Daily Rider
called I Customized the R1. I scratched
the fairing really good. I thought they
were much worse then they actually are
though. Much of the scratches came right
out with a buffer leaving very small areas
to touch up. It went from total replacement
to just touch it up and no one will ever
know anything happened. Go to your local
parts store and get some compound. It's
in a short Green Cylinder with white writing
called NO. 7. Take that and a rag or your
finger... Plan to be patient and spend a
couple of hours and just keep swirling the
compound around the scratches.. It will take
a long time without a buffer but, all the
scratches in the clear coat will go away and
it will remove ANYTHING that got stuck on the
body from the fall... I'm telling you for
2 bucks you WILL BE AMAZED!

I would suggest using a buffer if you are
super careful and go slow.. slow with the
buffer, pulsing the trigger not holding it
on.. there is a thread about this procedure
somewhere in the archives.. do a search if
you want to know how to do it that what.
If you are patien however you will get rid
of most of the damage with alot of compound
and your fingers just be patient!

i thought about tryin to buff it out but the big noticable scratches are down to the Black part of the plastic.. it went all the way through the paint i guess but there are some that i can just pain over i suppose.. could i just go to like a paint store where they paint cars like Maco or whatever?
