I bought an 00 gsxr600, rode it for 2 months out in cali and had a blast. moved back to michigan, sold it.

I'm really not interested in riding here. The roads suck. The only people that ride here are retards pulling wheelies to impress girls across campus. (including the guy that dropped his bike while doing a wheelie because his new 600 couldn't keep up with his skills. his reaction time was faster than the bike and hence why he now has a 1000)

I never was into the showing off part of a bike but love to ride.

Anyway, my next bike is going to be a pure track bike. I want to learn to RIDE WELL. I figure the track is the place to do it.

I've had too many close calls with shitty roads to really feel confident around any turns (if i could find one to begin with).

I am looking for suggestions of what to look for, what to pay and how to begin this process. Also, what am I looking at for track time. I am by no means a "good" rider. I can just ride from point a to point b safely.

I have the truck and everything so i'm perfectly capable of transport and such.

I also wouldn't mind a bike I COULD ride on the street if i wanted to.

track days can be expensive, I believe it's anywhere fro $299 to $699 for 1 or 2 days, depending on package. guys who have done it would be able to answer you better, but if it was cheap, I'd be going there every weekend . check out Club Racing and Track Days section.

why not a gsxr over an SV?

I felt much more confident on my gsxr than i would on an SV around turns.

the gsxr just loved to hit the twisties.

really, what's with all the SV bashing? lol. they can keep up just as well, and makes it much more uncompromising ride for street curves. it has budget suspension, so no one expects it to be ridden at 10/10 pace. but ones that are track-prepped can be just as good.

gsxr would make the better track bike out of the box, but I wouldn't weed out sv, it's a great learning tool. it's very light, easy to flick even w/o body steering, and carries greater entrance speed.

Track only bikes can be had relatively cheap. Check around with the clubs and voice your interest. I've seen some pretty nice stuff around 3K and REALLY nice stuff with all the spares around 5K.

If it's not your plan to race but to do track days, I'd get a 600. Good basic workhorse for the track and lots of them around. Good luck.:)

but i guess my question is why would I get an SV over a GSXR ?

As for which bike to get, well it's really up to you...

SV's are a blast to ride, although if your local track has a longish straight, it can be frustrating having all the 600's ect blow by ya, but on the Plus side, you'll learn how to carry more corner speed. Just FYI..there are guys racing at Willow springs, where the last 2 turns are WFO turns...140+ mph...the SV's do just fine around em..:D
