Man I expected better from popular science. Comparing the 211v and 1000RR is just plain stupid. Oh, no they have simular body panels! Cmon, I donno enough about injectors and chassis to make a qualified statement, but everything else was pure hogwash. Claiming that bridgestones are anything close to motogp tires? Or the there is no difference between 11k or 16k rpm? Give me a break.
Todays bikes are bad ass and all, but motogp is in a league of their own

Vash, I don't think they were really comparing them that closely. They were indicating that many of the concepts are shared, but commenting on the vast differences. Seriously, if you think about the technology we have in these street bikes, its pretty amazing. I remember seeing technical drawings somewhere on the suspension on the 1000r and 211V. They use similar geometry and mounting styles. I interpreted their comment about the redline differences as being somewhat tounge-in-cheek. 11k is pretty amazing for a production line engine. 16K is just plain awesome. (yea, yea, I know, the 06 R6 does it too, but how long will it do it for? Yamahas are toooo fragile.) Their point is that the speed at which technology gets to the consumer is increasing dramatically.

the honda motogp guys said it best in an interview, "the body panels look similair, and thats where the similairities end"

the only things that are the same between the two bikes are the basic principles on while they, and all other motorcycles, are designed. MotoGP is in a league of there own, and while the basic ideas developed in MotoGP do find there way to the streets, very little of the actual technology does.
