I know this subject has been beaten to death; however I believe there is a reason it keeps coming up over and over.

I am going to do the lips of my black cbr wheels and am looking for pictures of this once completed preferably red and white f4i. I talked to a guy I met tonight on the street with an 02 R6 and he said he didn't even have to polish his, he just striped them and they looked smoothe and shiny. Any experience with this?? It was my original understanding that I should plan on hours of sanding and polishing. Also, do you recomend removing the tires from the wheels or can you just tape them off real well??

Remove the wheels from the bike
Leave tires on, this will be a cushion between rim and floor
Wet sand the lips starting with 220 and end with 1500
or
use aircraft stripper to remove the paint and then sand to a shine
polish with mothers

Couldnt have said it better and kept it simple. I just did mine. Turned out great....JUST DON"T RUSH IT

4 hrs and just the front is done........looks good guys but this was a little more work than I thought i was gettting into.

Possibly too fine of steel wool, so i switched to wet sanding the spots that did not strip and that seemed to work pretty well.

My advice to others considering this project......wait untill the off season!!

4hrs. is not bad, mine took forever....the paint would not strip off, I had to completely sand the beeotch by hand. My rear stripped of all the paint, as soon as the stripper hit the wheel. If you want to get it really mirror like, you can use rouges and jewler's polishes to finish it. Duessel's wheel are tight, when you can see them up close.

You all must be using the wrong paint stripper or are trying to get if off too fast. Sometimes you have to re-apply the stripper to the stubborn spots several times. I have never had to use sandpaper. I do use a Scotchbrite pad to remove the stripper so the paint dosent bulid up on a rag. After cool water rinsing, rinse it with hot so it will dry quickly. I think 4 hrs was the TOTAL time I have ever spent masking, stripping and cleaning the wheels. Then 2 hrs max to polish the rims.

Also take the tires and brakes off, don't get that stuff near the rubber, bad news!

The problem I was having is that after the second round of stripper my masking tape was getting pretty weak and I was afraid of wrecking my straight line. I recall reading somewhere that duct tape can be used also?? Maybe I'll try this for the rear wheel.

Thoughts??
