For those that haven't heard yet. A Romanian female gymnist had her gold medal taken away for failing a drug test. Apparently she had a stimulant found in her system. She got it from a cold medicine given to her by the Romanian team doctor. This is a shame. She needs Haga's lawyers.
The IOC really needs to look hard at changing their policies or at least clarifying them.
The doctor has received a pretty stiff penalty by the Olympic committee. I guess it's a good thing they aren't still hard core commies or he would probably be shot.
I assume that the stimulant was probably ephedrine. They did not say exactly what it was but I believe most cold medicines contain ephedrine.
BTW, Haga shouldn't get his points back and he doesn't deserve the championship. Edwards has more wins and didn't have the advantage of being able to just hang it out due to a can't lose situation. There's some food for thought. It's not going to matter anyway... Colin will beat Haga in the last round so the points won't matter.

Come on John, do you really believe that the *team doctor* wasn't trying to hide the performance enhancing drug in the cough medicine?!

On a more serious note, I really don't think you can classify Haga's situation as "can't lose" when the "jury" is still out. But, I think you are right (at least I hope so) with the prediction that it won't matter in the end as far as Edwards taking the championship.

See he was so hopped up on ephedrine and caffeine that he couldn't control the bike. Like this year, the bike is sliding all over the track.
Poor chap... give ME a break.

Yeah, the drug she got "busted" for was ephederine. It actually tends to make you drowsy more often than not. C'mon, the woman won WITH A COLD. Do they honestly think she had an advantage over the others? As far as Haga goes, he deserves those points back. He got them fair and square and would have benefited more from a nice espresso in the morning than any amount of ephederine. If anything, that crazy SOB would benefit more from taking a quaylude or two. Look at the way he rides! Anyway, I don't think people will respect Edwards' WSBK title unless he beats Haga with ALL his points. I predict he will. Colin's lookin' good now.

On the serious side, since your forcing it, I totally agree with you. I hope they give him his points back and Colin beats him anyway.

WRONG ! ephedrine is a upper, it is like cafine, in fact cafine is a banned substance also, you can have a predetermined amount in your system.
the other thing ephedrine does, is it shrinks the lining of the nose, so you can breath easier.

Caffiene being a controlled substance is why I was joking about the espresso. The caffeine ban came out during the Haga episode. A doctor indicated that drinking a couple of espressos before an Olympic meet would get you disqualified. A little harsh I think but what the hell do I know... I drink at least a pot of coffee a day. It keeps my post count up on SBW.
