So far i've been lurking here a couple of days, and i must say, this is a badass forum. very active. I have been on other large forums before with cars, mainly ls1tech, and i love it.

I'm also new to riding. I have signed up for the msf course and will be taking that this upcoming weekend. I'm looking at buying a GS500f within a couple of weeks afterwards. I cant wait!! I'm trying to do this the right way and not the way most guys my age do and go get an RR bike to start off with. its a good thing i am resistant to peer pressure too, most of the guys i know have told me to get at least a R6 or equiv. one of which limps now because of a bike accident. he started on a CBR 600RR lol..

i have money for gear, no prob. i'm actually glad u brought that up, because i dont know where to go to get good gear at a decent price. I know there has to be some deals on good stuff out there.

also, are leather pants really necessary or will jeans be good enough for most riding scenarios i will encounter. I live in an area that doesnt have twisty roads except for the occasional on and off ramps that loop around. majority of my riding will be on major highways, mostly weekends and nights after work.

Go try some gear on at bike shops first and, once you've found the styles and sizes you want, start shopping around, including on the 'net. Try www.newenough.com.

It's all up to you how much you gear-up. Jeans really just don't cut the mustard when it comes to stopping the pavement from tearing the flesh from your bones. You've only got only body, so I say protect the f*ck outta it. Personally, I never get on the bike without full gear.

Just my :2cents:

I'll only add that you should give the local shop carrying the gear a chance to come close to the online prices. Most shops recognize they have to be competitive and paying a slight premium (10%?) actually begins a relationship with local specialists that can pay off in the long run.

Which is why I said, "...start shopping around, including on the 'net..."

I prefer face-to-face service myself and am happy to pay a little bit extra for it. :thumb:
