ive always wanted to, just never had the opprotunity. my brother has been a city life gaurd for 3yrs now & was chosen to be on the cities new "lake patrol". they ride mountain bikes & jet ski all day.. why didnt they have that cool shtuff when i was a guard.

n e way.. another one of the guards/patrollers has a kawasaki 750 stand up & on sun/tues nights at the lake (big pond really) is jet ski only time & i go hang out & get to jet ski! last night i finally figured out how to get the stand up to do some tight turns & sink the back into the water & jump out.. i figured out the sit down/seado types really quik & got to ride some guys 2000 1100 w/head work done.. that thing kicks arse. we were out there till 1030 in pitch black playing in the water.. it was my 3rd night.

i highly recommend getting on one if u never have.

Personally, I hate the things.

I made the mistake of buying two of them between boats and soon realized that you can only have so much fun on them. The novelty lasts for about a half hour at a time, you have to wear a vest the whole time (which sucks for tanning unless your an SPF 1000 skin cancer freak, there are no tunes, hard to kick back and relax, most boaters hate the damn nats, lake lice, sea flea,- whatever you want to call them.

They cost just as much as a decent little boat and a good percentage of people riding them are non-thinking idiots who dont look before turning and are major safety hazards on the water.

The biggest problem of all with them, -other than the fact that they are MAJOR poluters- is that they rent them out without any type of real training. Hell, you can buy one and they just send you on your way with no formal instruction! If they were to outlaw rental of jetskis, seadoos, whatevers, it would really help the reputation of the sport.

Actually, they do have their uses like Lifeguard rescue work and shoreboat duty. Other than that, they're a pain in my vacation time

I had a Yamaha Waverunner VXR for 2 yrs. Sold it for two reasons.
1. Needed money to buy a racebike.
2. Got tired of the idiots in BOATS. I used to run on the river here and there are too many dipsh*ts who think a 30' cuddy belongs on a small river (200' wide 10' deep max) with alot of sand bars and bends. I almost got hit 3 times the last summer I had it but drunks in cuddy's. WI needs to have a license system for anyone who drives a boat (w/endorsments for PWC) just like cars. Maybe that will stop the problems with some boaters (pwc riders included). But the funniest thing I saw on my VXR was some moron in a 28' Baja w/ twin inboards. I was coming around a bend hugging shore so he can go around the rock bar (about 1" below the water line) on the other shoreline when he just went straight across it at 40 or so mph. When he stopped the boat settles into the mud with gas and oil everywhere in the water. The outdrives are about 30' behind the boat with the transom and pieces of his hull. I ride over to see if he needs some help. Just before I get there, he grabs a beer and tries to use his cell phone, either drunk or shaken, dont know which. So I left him on his own. He got what he deserved for being drunk or not paying attention to the river. I'd like to get another Waverunner but until they start cracking down on bad boaters instead of harassing all of the pwc riders I'll stay off of them.

wow, i didnt think there would be any negative feed back let alone 99% of the responses... but i can see your points.. ive only ridden them on a "lake" that has time slots for different water craft.. the most you will see is 4 boats 2 pwc or 8 pwc & for the most part u have to follow a counter clock wise pattern & then my renta-water-cop brother & his friends are there to regulate... so i have yet to see these conditions. i would never buy one cause that is money that could have gone to new dj gear or track time or race fees or whatever... but i still think they are fun as h3ll.

Im with riverrunner. I do a lot of fishing, and I hate the damn things. Every time one of these [email protected] on a jetski flies by, they scare away all the fish within a mile. Just the other day while the tall ships were sailing into boston, there were jetskis everywhere. I had a fish nibling on my line and was waiting for the big strike when a couple on a jetski speeds past and scared the fish away. If they came back for another pass, I would have thrown rocks at those $hitheads. I know I dont own the water, but why cant they be considerate to other people. Why do they have to ride so damn close to the shore? The same goes for speed boats and those piece of crap lobster boats. I hate em all!

Rob, -sad but true.
There are alot of foolish Boats as well as pwcs. Just like everything, theres gonna be the idiots. It seems the new trend is to buy a 28'+ offshore racer and run in on Parker which is all of 7 miles long and 150' wide. They chop the hell out of the water besides the mentality that they own the place. Oh well, guess that why im getting rid of the river boat and getting a nice sunbridge for the ocean.

BTW, now that I think about it, Pwcs are REALLY fun in the ocean jumping the waves! I actually loved that, but your not allowed to be within 100' of shore so that almost ruins that. Anway, the idea of licensing and endorsements would really help everyone and the sport.

When I had mine I tried as much as possible to stay away from fisherman when running at speed, but slowed to a crawl if I had to go near them (away from the lines always). And if anyone ever threw rocks at me (not saying you would) ,they'd be taking a trip with a few friends of mine at the Sheriffs Dept. I followed the boat laws as much as possible (with the exception of wake jumping behind my friends ski boat). Amazing how many boaters dont know which boat has right of way when meeting or which way to veer when passing a boat.

PS How about this idea,
Make certain days for certain boats and rotate the schedule.
ie Sun- PCWs
Mon-Tue - Pontoons & Fishing
Wed-Thr - Cruisers & Fishing
Fri-Sat - Ski boats
Maybe that would help .hehe

Maritime Law: The least maneuverable craft always has the right of way. And it works opposite too i.e. -The most maneuverable craft must give right of way and yield.

Sail boats and tow boats in tow always get right of way and PWCs Never get right of way.

It seems to me that everyone on the water HATES everyone else on the water!

I don't know what it is, but it's even worse than the Harleys/Sportbikes/Gold Wings/BMW's thing. If you ride a jet-ski, you hate the fishermen and the water skiers. If you fish, you hate everyone who even makes a sound. If you're a tree-hugger, you hate everyone who has the nerve to even touch the water...

Personally, I like personal watercraft, and I used to have a lot of fun with my Yamaha Super Jet, and my Wave Blaster. But lately, I've barely ridden them because I got so sick of all the CRAP you have to put up with.

Our closest lake to Tucson has very stringent regulations against PWC's. During the summer months, you can't even ride on weekends, and at all times we're restricted to half the lake. And yet, you would still get fishermen and canoeists, etc., over in our section of the lake, on weekdays, giving us a bunch of sh*t. Well, screw 'em.

I realize a lot of you guys fish. For the life of me, I can't understand WHY, but I know that you do. That's fine, but everyone is entitled to a little space. I don't go where the fishermen are supposed to be, so why can't they stay out of what's left of our area?

And keep this in mind: The way all the boaters/fishermen/general public feels about jet skis is EXACTLY the way SPORTBIKES are viewed by the majority out there. So if you have an attitude about jet skiers, and you think they're all just a menace, just think about that next time you're riding your bike. Everyone around you is thinking the same thing about you..
