My R26

This is my 1957 BMW R26 in my garage.
The picture isn't that good, but it was late at night. The SR is sitting right next to it, sleeping under the cover.
Another naked :coolc:, they were just calling them Motorcycles back then :D

ID a BMW

Take a flashlight and look to see if there is an ID plate on the front of the steering head. If so, it should ID the model and year of the bike. VIN numbers are stamped into the right side steering head/downtube gusset. Most models can be identified by VINs as well.

If the bike has it's instruments built into the top of the headlight shell, it's pre-1974 and is of appreciating value. If the speedo and tach are in a pod, it's '74 or later, and who knows.

Hi Robert,

I will second what Mark said. There is a little metal plate on the frame identifying the bike. This mentions, model, year (approximate), weight, horsepower etc.
If it's missing things get more difficult for you.
A picture would also be very helpful, I would probably be able to identify it for you if you could post a pic here.

Here is a good site with nice pictures and history that can help yopu identify it yourself!

BMW

Best regards team:

Well....Seems like the guy got rid of the bike this last weekend and I did not noticed. maybe next time..I'll like to try to find a very old bike (cheap) and restore it as a Café Racer. Maybe a Norton or Triton (Triumph+Norton).
