I thought about this on the way to work this morning.

We are always saying something about how countries like iraq are silly for worshiping cows. But who are we, as americans, to judge something like that? Once a year, every year, we rely on a varnmit to predict when spring is going to arrive? How much different is it to worship a cow than it is to claim a groundhog is an orical?

Interesting outlook...and funny too!

I always cracked up at the fact that some Americans made fun of Hindu's or Arabs for worshipping animals. I think the difference is that in one instance the entire country (religion) feels one way versus a single population. For example...

I've seen people treat their pets with more respect and dignity then their own children. I've seen people not eat meat because it has eyes or a personality. How different is it then an entire country worshipping a single cow. Like ZX6R1033 Said...we stand around wait for a varmit to come out of a hole. Then if we are lucky, we can watch it piss on some dudes arm. LOL

Me I personally don't care...I hunt and fish, and love a good burger or steak afterwards.

Heh, and almost all countries and religions have stupid people. Like the person that bought the toastes cheese sandwich that had the face of jesus on it. We just have to face it the world is full of idiotic beleifs and traditions... so lets just point and laugh. Just dont get pissed and bomb a country when they laugh at you:twofinger

Someone feel free to correct me, but I dont believe arabs (or rather muslims) worship animals, the cow is a hindu thing (which would put it in india not iraq).

I personally wouldnt redicule people for thinking that their grandparents take the form of a cow anymore than I would the whole groundhog thing. Sure it sounds pretty silly to me, but its harmless, so what do I care?

What seems considerably more silly, is how much they allow this belief to influence their life. Imagine letting a million cattle head herd roam around Dallas, or chicago, or anywhere else. And no one is allowed to be remotely rude to them. How would we go about our day when there are 50 cattle on the loop and no one can move them away?

Just seems so impractical...

Thousands flock to see 'divine' calf

Thousands of people flocked to southern Egypt today to seek blessing from a calf they believe was born as God's reply to the publication in Europe of cartoons depicting the prophet, police said.

Some 20,000 thousand people had gathered in front of Mohammed Abu Dif's house in the village of Tunis to see the holy mammal, whose skin folds when he was born reportedly formed the words "There is no God but Allah", a police official said on condition of anonymity.

He said the villagers flocked from all over the southern governorate of Sohag to the farmer's house and had to be dispersed by police, who feared the gathering could get out of control.

Witnesses said they believed the calf was "Allah's response to current attacks against Islam", the official said.

He was referring to the publication in a Danish daily five months ago of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed, which is banned in Islam.

Oh, that... sounds very simular to the "I saw the virgin marry in the water stain on the overpass or in the glare of a office window" phenomena....

Which is sillier worshipping a calf or a piece of concrete?

That had nothing to do with the worship of cows. It was just about a message from Allah. Muslims do not worship Cows, Buddha, or anything other than God Himself.

Vash was kind of right. While Hindus don't worship cows, they are held as sacred...

Hindus believe in treating all living things equally and have high regard for animals, especially the cow. Many Hindus believe that the cow is a living symbol of mother earth. In early agricultural times, the cow, thought to have been the first animal Hindus domesticated, provided a lot for families, including milk, milk products, labor, and dung. Because cows would give all its possessions for the benefit of others, they were thought of as one of the most important parts of the family. Hindu scriptures prohibit cow slaughter for these reasons.

it's all pretty damn rediculous if you ask me. I think the whole groundhog thign is more tradition and kind of a joke than anything. They're nowhere near close. The hindu thing with the sacred cows is far exceeding the groundhog day thing. Plus, when was the last time you heard someone say "I'm comming back as a cockroach" when they ran over a groundhog?

Religion is a joke. Including all forms of christianity.
For those who truely follow religious teachings and turn the other cheek and forgive, then that is good. But I agree that many ignorant people use "God" to justify their crappy sociopathic personalities and do what ever they want. Just look at the religious wars.

I just think it is ignorant to assume people must be retarted for "worshipping" a cow, when we have just as many people at home worshipping an invisible man that created the universe. Who is to say that hindus are not right, perhaps that cow really was sent from god or however the story goes. There is just as much proof in that as their is in any religous belief.

Hmmm, let's see...

If the Invisible Man created the universe...

And H.G. Wells created the Invisible Man...

Does that mean we should worship Mr Wells and his ancestors????
