Believe it or not, we were looking at making a pair of these when I decided to do a search and see if anyone already had a kit out there....sure enough, look what I found.

so right is powered left is not?

I would think that induction motors would be better in this application.

You'd need a hell of a long cord to plug it in. :twofinger

Seriously though, wouldn't a motor/battery combo make it even more cumbersome than the gas setup?

depends on how hardcore you get about designing this thing. Homebuilt? certainly.

But if you build the motors into the wheels (mold the wheel around the coils), you can hide the controlling circuitry under the sole, and use a series of custom small li-ion batteries to make the hard part of the shoe, or better yet, use some capacitor magic to power the whole contraption, you could concievably get it witing a comparable package of the unpowered version. I doubt it would run for longer than 20 minutes, but for a skating park with charging stands, that would be enough.

Speaking of parks, you could always do some sort of conductive floor thing....
