i was juss riding along doing about 50, and a frickin lady >=o cut me off making a left turn, i guess she was in ahurry, but by the time she pull out in front of me.. there was only like 10 ft out in front of me.. i almost grabbed a hand fulll of ya know.. and braked, man.. i had a nerve to go back and give her a piece of my mind or at least my foot.. so anyways.. i didnt' bother to turn around and so i rode on. but as i rode on. i thought wait a minute, there isn't even anybody behind, y didnt' she juss wait?.. i dont know, im afraid most, of somebody pullin out in front of me. or making a lane change when im white lining, (splitting traffic), i can handle eating it on my own... in the canyons.. but not because of an ignorant driver~!..
.. but after that i got to hit the canyons wit a friend and his new r1. man the canyons are luvly~!.. =B

I hear you man!
I got taken out in December by a women (not that I'm being sexist or anything!) who did almost exactly the same thing to me. Except, being in NZ it was the other way round. Two lanes my side of center, me in the right, her in the left. About 2m behind her (DIFFERENT LANE!) about to overhaul her, and she pulls a u-turn across in front of me. I had no-where to go! Grabbed a handful of brake, did a nice stoppie. Hit her in the worst place possible - the middle of the driver's side door (that'd be the right side in NZ). My left arm collected the front pillar, and to cut a long story short, I've got a titanium plate in my arm now, and was out of riding for over 3 months.

Wish people would LOOK before they turn! Or even perhaps come and visit you in hospital when they take you out :(

Okay, I've got it out of my system now. :)

Keep the rubber side down!

My arm feels almost as good as new. Nice scar and all that. Went rock climbing about a month ago, and I really noticed it wasn't as strong as my other arm, but I guess you get that when you're putting all your weight on it. Took me 6mths to get together the dosh and find a suitable replacement for that bike, but now I'm riding like anything. A little more cautious and defensive (I don't care who's fault it is, there is still a chance I'll get hurt), but am picking up where I left off at Christmas.

Apparently titanium doesn't show up on the metal detectors. I'm a pilot, so I was thinking this is going to be brilliant, setting the damn thing off every day ... I was talking to someone about this, and we got into why they don't make titanium guns and all that :D

Getting bowled by someone else's mistake sucks, but you put it behind you and get on with it.

Keep the shiny side up!

Actually they do make Titanium guns now. Taurus just came out with one that I think weighs 14 oz's. Not to scare you, but it is a reality.

titanium guns?!?!?! YIKES!!!! i'm not going to take airplanes until they get titanium detectors. oh man...back to topic...family van?...i never had that happened to me and i sure as heck am scared to. so anytime i see a van, i'm just gonna steer clear of them. "soccer moms" YIKES!

Surely not ALL of the gun is titanium though. The bullets surely wouldn't be. So they would show up.

Back on topic though: I've nearly been taken out by the "family" van. I was going around a left hand corner (for those of you in the states, imagine a right hand corner). Luckily I'm at about the apex and I'm right over to the left hand side of the road (->RHS) and this van comes flying around the corner, more than half on MY side of the road. Scared the living $hit out of me!

I can relate!

I had a really close call once. I had the girlfriend on the back and it was raining fairly hard, I was following a minivan and there was a mustang behind me on a back road.

Just as we where slowing down for a set of railroad tracks, the minivan in front pulled over to the side of the road. I passed the minivan, then I glanced in my mirror and saw the minivan hit the gas and pull a U-turn... right into the side of the Mustang!

The Mustang was totaled, the van had a crumpled bumper. I pulled over and waited for the cops to arrive. I registered myself as a witness (cuz I wanted this "soccer mom" to get everything that she deserved!)... unfortunately I was never called about the incident. :(

I know that if I had been following the Mustang I would have probably been killed in this incident (since it was raining hard and I had a passenger, I probably wouldn't have been able to avoid the van).

Mini-vans, SUV's, and the old folks in the land-boat Buick. These are the ones that show up red on my radar. Some people just don't look where they are going. They buy these vehicles with all of these safety features and just don't give a shit what they hit. In the case of mini-vans, they should be outlawed. They are nothing but blindspot. The only view you really have is what's in front of you.

Back off topic, you are correct, the guns are not made exclusively of titanium, just like a Glock is not the all-plastic pistol it was once made out to be, causing all that airport/airplane security mumbo-jumbo back some years ago. They all have plenty enough non-titanium metal to set off a metal detector, and they all show up very clearly as guns on x-ray.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Just remember that minivans and SUV are usually full of screaming/bawling kids and the "soccer mom" driving is pissed off and under complete sensory overload so they have no idea what's going on around them and wouldn't care if they did. I don't drive next to them and pass them as quick as I can. My real pet peeve is those complete dimwits that drive with a cel phone stuck to the side of their head and their head up their a$$.

------------------
I'm with ya on the cell phones...I can't stand those things....I saw something the other day that almost floored me. A guy was driving down the road and it was obvious he was fiddling with his cell phone. So what happens: He actually pulls over and parks the car to talk on the phone...what a novel f**kin concept....Just my .02, but I can't wait until they make them illegal to use while operating a vehicle...I realize that will upset someone, but frankly most people can't even pay attention to what they're doing with no distractions let alone, with a cell phone.

I also noted today in the news that Ford or GM and som ISP are teaming up to offer wireless web in your car straight from the factory....here's what we need...some guy going down the road staring at a monitor....

How sane

Compared to most here, I've been riding a very short time, but so far the only two cars that ran me off the road were mini vans...

I think people in big cars get isolated too much from the road...
