Run Mobil 1 15w50 in both bikes. Regularly put 10,000 miles between changes on the Concours (if I'm doing other maintenance and the mood hits me, mebbe 5,000). 'Might' change the 6R at 5,000 (nice, round number EZ to keep track of) since it's so quick/EZ. The Concours is a bit more involved.
Was at WalMart today and see they now carry Shell Rotella Synthetic for around $13/gal. Was thinking 'bout going to Delvac Mobil 1, but they've changed it to 5w/?, which is just a little too thin for me.
I've been confused about this topic since I bought my 01 929. In the owners manuel it says your first oil change should be at 600 miles and that's for the break in period, ok. Then it says every 8000 miles after that. I've never seen or heard of that till then. But I'm going to meet them half way, every 4000 miles.
I sure wouldnt let it go 8000, although Im no expert. I've heard a rumor that manufacturers set the oil change interval artificially high so it appears to have less environmental impact, something to do with the EPA. Maybe just a rumor. 3K on oil, 6k on filter for me.
