Hey all.
I have a ride planned coming up which while isnt excessively long, its not a length that I normally would do in a day.
I will be going from central BC down across the border way down to the oregeon coast. The trip planner (map and calculator) figures it will be about 1000 kilometers (8ish hour ride) for the whole thing. I am going to need to do this in a day, only one way though.
What I am after is any suggestions to help me keep fit and not burn myself right out.
As for the bike, I just performed mainteneance on it (oil, carb drain, new battery, new front tire (back is still good), plugs, bolt tightening etc) so it is in about as good a shape as it can be.
What can I do for the body maintenance though? I was planning on a half hour break after the first coupel of hours, then maybe an hour break at the halfway (border) point. Then another half hour at the 6 hour mark. Should I give it a little more time? I don't really care if breaks add a few more hours to the trip, I just want to be somewhat fresh and able to do things when the ride is done. Also I am hoping the breaks will give my bike time to cool down and rest too. Its older, so I dont want to ride for 8 hours straight and watch it die.

Any suggestions, favorite drinks, stretch exercises, muscle relaxers you like to take or do on a long trip appreciated. Thanks!
