Hey SAGEKILLER, HAMMER, GIXXERSIXXER and ROGUE RIDER, I was going to email you guys, but I figured if I post this here, others can take from it what they may....

Joe, my neighbor/friend with the 748 and I were washing our bikes yesterday. After washing the bikes we generally blow them off with the shop vac, wipe with towel, ride down street and back and wipe again right. Anyway, he had washed the Duc and hopped on to ride it down the street and back. -Generally he goofs off on our street and all the neighbors have told him that he should take it easy (our neighborhood is a group of pretty cool, close folks who, for the majority, are into bikes :D ) So its not that big of a deal when he acts goofy, but still, squid is squid and in reality nobody wants that on our block.

SO Anyway, he is going back and forth poppin little wheelies for the amusement of my son and I  and has recently been trying to prefect shifting into second.... Well on his second pass, I see that it looks like he is coming down the road too fast and think to myself that he will not be able to bring it up since the 748 is a guttless wonder :D . Well it comes up, he shifts I guess and then it stands straight up! of course the bike looses its balance at that angle right. Well LUCKILY he brings it back down without flipping it but its too late, the bike is out of control. The bike low sides thankfully instead of high sides and he manages to climb up onto the bike!!!! ~~visualize now that he is in T-shirt, shorts and shoes ~Thats it~. When he stops sliding about 150' down the road, I go running up to him and he nearly goes into shock, I get him to lay in the grass while I get asprin and lotsa water for him since the only injuries are 3 finger tips and both palms!!! CAN YOU SAY LUCKY SOB!!!

I got the bike up and it still ran fine, mostly cosmetic damage, clip-on, shifter peg etc. and all plastic on the left side including tank, both mirrors since he knocked one off climbing onto the bike. Im guessing at about $7000 but we'll see when Ducati gets their estimate!!  We already know the gas tank alone is $2000 :hurl:. I think he will ride again, but his wife is due in December and she is none to happy right now, so we'll see...

So, there ya go. I guess the moral is this:

If you keep pushing your riding in search of the limit, you will eventually find it.

Hold on Kyle. Didn't you flame the shit out of Sagekillier for popping wheelies in a parking lot? And now you and your son and cheering on your buddy on a street probably occupied by playing children?
You don't make sense man. I am a huge wheelie addict but I will never pop wheelies on a street where people are likely to get injured if I loose control of the bike.

Glad to hear he's ok though.

1. Yes, I did flame on Sage for doing this, but we're ol' friends now so its ok :D When Sage pulls a stand-up wheelie on the freeway at 100, I love to watch it. I think the kid has the skill to do it safely in a relative sense.

2. Currently, there are NO kids on our end of the street and this was in the middle of the day. Although, as I said, I dont agree with what he does, on this particular event there was no chance really of any kids, dogs or cars surprising him. If this had happened in a parking lot or a desert road, the risk and effect would have been the same.

3. If you note the  smilie where I mentioned that he was doing it for our enjoyment, that  smilie was meant to say that I was not sitting there amused with him rather more like 'here goes crazy ass Joe again'. I do not cheer him on nor do I praise him for his antics.

4. And besides, eveyone else in the world is a hypocrite to some extent or another as am I :D

A cheaper solution!

Hey check out my web page, we can fix his whole bike back to brand new for a hell of a lot less than just the price of a new gas tank, and yes we can fix that too. We do Plastic Welding & Custom Painting on sportbikes. We fix a lot of wheelies gone bad :) we've got a picture of one of Todd Colberts bikes in our work examples section "110 MPH Wheelie gone bad"

Thanks Stoppie, Ill keep your link in my favorites, but he luckily has full coverage and the Duc shop will be replacing everything.

I get to ride the bike to the shop tomorrow  We'll see what the final figure is. If they DO total it, he is thinking of buying it back and making it into a track bike in which case he'll be contacting you. :)

Sounds good. We've done a few track bikes in the last couple weeks. We take the wrecked plastic and get rid of all the holes. Such as the headlight, turn signals, taillight....... thats all optional but most like it, they feel more profesional :D

He had just cleaned the bike and was supposed to just be riding it down the street. I know, not a good reason.
I think he will be re-evaluating his habits now, I sure am.

Im not sure about Sunday, Sage said it's suposta rain. Ill watch the weather and talk to the wife, but Sage is riding Saturday. We'll see how it goes. Im hoping we're not done for the winter, but Joe is
