Heading to LA/ Santa Monica area mid June. I will hang around a few days there at my sister's. May need tire source and would appreciate any recommendations on trustworthy shops, independant and/or Honda dealers in the area of Brentwood/Santa Monica. Planning on doing some canyon riding, too. I will make the obligatory stop at the Rock Store but wouldn't mind saying hello to some of the usual suspects from here and getting some other rides and/or hangin' out in the evening. Any suggestions? Hammer maybe? Anybody else?:)

I will likely go out 70 through Denver, to 15, through Vegas and on in to 10. Possibly divert to some other roads in Colorado, through four corners, then in 40 to Barstow but not sure. Anybody along the way want to roll a little that would be fine but I won't be lingering, just rolling. Not massive speeding but steady long days.

The return will probably be up through Salt Lake to Tetons/Yellowstone, a day there, then through the Black Hills and roll home. Post if you're along the way but again, little lingering, just making ground.

Thanks in advance.:)

Dam we are going to miss each other buy a few weeks I will be in CA around the the 4th of July. I'm flying out. IDK if I could do the trip on the R6 I know I could do one way I just don't know about coming back. But I have found a place out there that rents bikes so I think I may do that for one day. Hopefully I can meet up with some people and get some riding in.

Palomar is down in San Deeago..but worth thr trip if ya get there on a weekday, or Early on a weekend day...very senic(sp) but a Long ride....

Angeles Crest...imho..it's a so-so place..lots of leo's up there on the weekends..But, once ya get past the resturant, and head towards Wrigtwood...it's pretty nice...once again, a long ride, but not as long as Palomar. If your not planning on riding real hard, do the Crest(Angeles Crest). Oh, and watch out for the Tar Snakes..:D

And, I already told ya bout the Rock Store..so that's covered..:D

Dammit...Dan, how come ya didn't tell me you were in So. Cali..???:twofinger

Rock Store I've been. I can get there OK. The others, Palomar and Angeles Crest, any route numbers, towns, or landmarks? I don't mind a little ride if necessary.:)

Dad you may want to go north on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) From Santa monica. I don't know where it gets good but that supposed to be very nice. I'm still not sure when I get out there if I will rent a bike or not.

Hammer 4, I'm going to be in your neck of the wood, for at least a few days when I get out there for the 4th of july weekend.

Has anyone when to Cal sporbikes retail store? I may be in that area to just a short drive anway maybe an 45 min or so. Is it worth it to go there. Would be looking for some gear speceficaly. Do they have a wide selection right there?

Dad...to get to Angeles Crest...looks like the easiest way is to get on the 10 Frwy east..take that to the 5 frwy north, then take the 2 (Glendale frwy) north to the 210 frwy, go east, exit Angeles crest hwy..north, there'll be a Shell gas station on the north east corner..stay on A.C. hwy, for quiet a while, up towards the top of the mountian, you'll see Newcombs on the left side, that's the cafe where everyone stops. You can continue on A.C. hwy, all the way to Wrightwood Ski resort. Once again, watch the speed limit if ya go on a weekend..

getting to Palomar is gonna be a long trip..

Take the 10 frwy east, to the 5 frwy south, then take the 91 frwy east to the city of Carona, then take the 15 south for awhile, you'll go past Riverside county, then into San Deigo county..exit at the 76, go east / left...toward Pala, you'll see the Pala casino..keep going on the 76 which will take up to the top of Palomar, best to leave very early to avoid the crowds...should take ya about 2 1/2 hrs. to get there, depending on how ya ride.

Oh, by the way, you can catch the 10 frwy off of PCH right by the pier in Santa Monica.

Calsportbike store IS up in Wrightwood, i.e. north of Angeles Crest...and yup, it's worth the trip...good folks there.

Not much good riding on PCH..till ya get up around Oxnard, then go inland towards some twisties...long ride, and there's better stuff closer to home..:D

Hey let me know when you think you will be in Barstow. I can swing some time off and ride with you into LA. Maybe ride some twisty stuff together.

Well, Got in early Tuesday AM. Having an EXCELLENT ride this far, especially Colorado and Utah. Some new to me roads that were all mine at this time of year, before tourist season starts.

Got a set of stands available for a fork seal job? Yeah, got a leaker, one side. I had recently replaced the first set after 93,000 miles and must have Dealer has the seals and the hardware store has the driver tools, available in 20' lengths.;) I actually am going to try to fix it here because it sucks not having everything perfect. My cell phone works poorly if at all in the canyon where my sister lives. Greg, I'll send you a PM.

Well, I got the parts today and am going to go at it tomorrow, Thursday. Hopefully will finish up and be able to take a test spin by tomorrow evening. Give me a call and we'll see what's up.

R6 Steve, where is the "beginning" of the Angeles Crest road? At the LA end or out near I-15? You referenced "the beginning" but not sure which end that is. Hopefully I could be ready to go early AM Friday.

I finished the fork seal. I was concerned that I had boogered up the new seal I had put in just 6000 miles ago but found a stone nick that had cut the seal. I was able to polish it out and so hopefully am good to go another 90,000 on the new one. Speedo drive coupling is in, too. Anybody going to ride Friday? Anybody for coffee Friday night? How about Saturday daylight hours (may have something doing Saturday night) or Sunday anytime? The only thing I'd like to do yet is clean the extreme amount of road grit and bugs off it that was acquired on the ride out. Later.
