My bike's key is actually a copy of a copy so it takes a lot of jiggling to get it to turn. I know I can take it to a locksmith and he said he could make me a good key but I would have to take the whole ignition out but even with looking at the parts diagrams im not really sure how to.

So that leads me to this question. Is their a way to replace my stock ignition with something that is like remote or something? So there would be no key just a clicker or something kinda cool like that. I cant have just a switch as I park my bike outside and dont want it getting stolen.

I dont want to spend a fortune but ya know...

its a 93 zx6e btw

I know you could do it, its wether or not there is a kit out there ready to do it or if you would need to modify one for anouther bike to do it. With your bike being older, a kit for it probably won't be available. You could always just replace the entire key ignition system for around 15 bucks. You can pick one up from an auto store, it wont have the wheel lock option but it should work.

For the cost, time, and benefit I wouldn't bother with a keyless ignition...mainly for me it since it wouldn't lock the wheel via remote the benefits of requiring the remote to start the bike is much reduced as in your case you'd still be using the key to lock the steering and a bike can still be stolen even if the theft can't find the ignition switch (especially easier if you decided to leave the steering unlocked because you didn't wanna mess with the key)

For the cool factor I'd say it's pretty cool but for the work involved you probably could have messed with the ignition lock and had a locksmith make a key.

Turn the bars all the way to the left and then put your key in and see if it will turn past off, if so then there is a steering lock.

Yeah i should check and see if I can just buy a key on bike bandit or something. I'll try the steering lock too.

I broke a tumbler in my ignition switch just a couple of days ago. Had a Locksmith remove all but 2 tumblers now my key is smooth as slik. Cost about $100 though.

Also use to hide a toggle switch under the gas/oil tank. No key necessary. Just lock the bike with a chain or never leave it out of sight.
