Ok my mom got me this new cable modem. I downloaded blackice and it worked until the trial version ran out since I am buying a new bike I cant afford to pay for the full version. Any way they decided to delete all of my 1gig of bike pics and movies my notes( bike dresses, things I have to buy, track dates, etc.) all my car stuff my research paper it was already printed out luckily, changed my background and what really crosses the line they deleted all my porn
does anybody have something I can use to stop this from happening again that's free.

Sure just type "format c: /u" at the DOS prompt.
No one will ever get in :D:D ;)

Go to download.com and type in firewall, If you have a Trojan on your computer get a virus scanner first.

Congrats on the new bike though ? What do you mean by bike dresses ? You don't drees up you bike do you ?

DOH

Sorry to hear about the hack. The only thing I can recommend is a different program besides blackice. It is to easy these days to get into a system that is running blackice. It is not one of the greatest to use. Irecommend looking for other programs.

Just my $.02.

Good Firewall

The best free one is ZoneAlarm. It can be downloaded from its one site or go to tucows, zdnet, or cnet and search firewalls. Black Ice has a problem with port 6699(i think thats it) anyway so even with the commercialized version you still leave an open port. I'm sure they fixed now with a patch but it still isnt the best firewall out there.

ZoneAlarm is free for personal use and is one of the best out there.

I agree about ZoneAlarm, its one of the slickest software firewalls out there for free.

(and thanks for the link, i used it a year ago and then reformatted later and never redownloaded it!)

Status bar?

Are you talking about the status bar that stays up? If so all you gotta do is click the "X" in the corner. It won't close zone alarm. What it does is send it to the system tray on the toolbar of windows. To actually close zone alarm you have to right-click on the icon in the system tray and select Shutdown. It will then prompt you. Hope this helps you out as well.

Every good deed deserves another....

If you're interested try d/loading a ping, finger, and trace program. They are everywhere and provide a little bit of an offensive control on nosy ppl. Go find your little badass friend and delete the contents of C:

Just an idea of whats the "moral" thing to do.

ZONE ALARM

I've got ZONE ALARM PRO on my rig here at work. From the website you can get the regular one but the pro one is better although you'll have to get the crack for it. Anyways, as for removing the bar, I don't believe you can get rid of it.... but it can be moved way off to the side if you want

Whats a Hacker???

Whats a hacker?? I just use common sense and protect myself. Nothings too hard to learn. :D:D

What bar are you guys talking about?? The only evidence that zonealarm is running is a chunk of virtual memory frozen with windows, lower RAM count, and a tiny ZA icon down in the lower righthand corner on the system tray. I'm lost as to what you guys are talking about with the "bar".

Is this the bar with the buttons that say Alerts, Locks, Security, Programs, and Configure? If so just click the "X" in the corner like you were closing it. It doesn't close it but sends it to the system tray. It still remains open and running but is just in the tray.

If its something else I have never seen it. You can also keep a text log and see everything that is going on.

I would have gone with everyone else and reccomended a firewall. At my house a Linux Box is used as the gateway computer. All you have to do then is shut off all the unneccesary ports.
