well, yesterday was exactly 5 years to the day that i took delivery of my 1st motorcycle. a 94 katana 600. the week before i had rode my friends friends bike.. a 95 katana 600. i was so scared, i went up the street turned around by stopping & moving the bike w/my feet.. i had a death grip on the clutch.. i rolled back to the house at 20mph never shifting.. my friends said i had the biggest grin on my face. i filled out paperwork for mine about 45 min later. dave (the owner of the other kat) drove it home for me.. from colorado springs to denver.. i followed him in his celica. i kept the bike in the back yard for a few hours. then i rode it around my neighbor hood. then next few nights i rode further & further & then i took it out in denver traffic to go get insurance. the next night i went downtown where all the bikes went & some harley guys were making fun of me & got me to drag race em.. i wound up the bike & dumped the clutch & saw nuthin but tank.. i rode a wheelie for about a 1/2 block because i didnt want to loose & i didnt know how to make it stop. i smoked em. my only regret.. not getting 1 sooner.

I have been riding bikes for a long time...

I had my F3 for 7 months before I traded it in. I have had my F4 for almost a year. July 27 is the day for me. :) :) :)

Wow. I wish I had a cool story like that! I can just see the look on your face as you dumped the clutch, the back tire hooks up, tank comes up and pops you right in the face, as you hold on for dear life and soil your pants! You 'da man! My story is a bit (ok, a lot)older and not as cool. :( Let's see...(screen starts that "swirly-flashback effect") It was back in 1985, an older friend of mine had a Honda CM450 (later renamed the Nighthawk). Electric Blue. Sighhhhhh, it was the coolest looking thing I'd ever seen. What, with its semi-gleaming 450cc twin motor, stylish 19 inch wheels (LMFAO!!!!!:cool :) and awesome single disk (5"in diameter)front brake and iron-grip rear drum brake it was just the cats pajamas. He took me for a ride around the block. No helmet, short pants on. Why, we must've went 45 miles per hour! Astonishing! I bought it about a month later. He wanted to buy one of those brand new "Ninja" sportbike things ;) ;) ;) I rode that bad boy with my open face 1/4" thick helmet for a good month before some lady in a 4 door Chevette painted 5 differnet colors of primer decided to make a left in front of me. I was a new rider. No license (I had a valid permit though!) And just froze. Didn't even hit the brakes (I don't think I did anyway, too long ago to remember). The bike was totaled. I sprained my wrist and some bumps and bruises. About a year later, I bought a 3rd or 4th hand Suzuki GS750. Rode that puppy for a good year or so. Wrecked it. Fixed it. Wrecked it. Fixed it. Wrecked it. Sold it for $300 and some beer. Didn't ride again until last year when I bought the Kat. Will never be w/o a bike again. Made sure the girlfriend knew that. Just in case we "do the deed".

I started riding when I was 5 years old (1971) so I really don't remember my anniversary. :(

P.S. It was a Harley Davidson 50cc minibike and my dad let me ride it around the block with him next to me.

So I had bought this KZ400 back in 91, much to the dismay of my wife. I had it for 2 years or so and it was a big piece of crap--running on both cylinders once in a while. She finally made me sell it using the "me or the bike" tactic. No contest, I chose her.

For years I had not spoken bikes, thought bikes, dreamt bikes--nothing. It would just have to be something I did in my next life, for I value my wife more than anything else.

For my 30th birthday last year, I was getting a " big surprise". My wife picked me up from work to go get it. I had no idea of what it was going to be or where we were going. When we pulled into the moto dealership I was thinking "Oh crap. She went and did something totally stupid. She bought a jetski or some damn thing...".

As we go in, all the salespeople (ALL) were saying "Hi Christa", "So this is him? Right on". (Most times moto dealer types only acknowledge the male) We go up to where this guy is taking the "sold" sign (not the "hold" sign off a new 98 F3. He smiles and says "What color helmet do you want?".

I just stood there for 5 minutes looking at the bike, not even touching it, wondering A) if the dream would end as soon as I got on it and B)what variety of moto-aliens had abducted my wife. Is she trying to kill me ran through my mind...

She had shopped for it. Educated herself on motorcycless. Picked it out and PAID FOR IT. All by herself. I was and continue to be totally amazed at the turnaround in her attitude toward bikes. Why? I guess I really don't care. I got a new bike!

In 300 miles she had tired of riding on the back and wanted lessons how to ride it herself. 3 weeks after I had picked my bike up, she went and bought herself a Ninja 500. We have had the bikes just over a year now and have had some great riding together.

Life is good.

Yeah, I've been a good boy.

Funnier part is that on her way to learning how to ride my CBR and buying her bike, these things happened...

--At 30miles, she dumped it on the right practicing the DMV test course. DOH!!!! How can you yell at the one who just bought you a new bike?

--At 200 miles, she dumped it on the left practicing on the DMV test course. DOH!!!!

--At 300 miles, passed her driving test on the same CBR and got a higher score than I did!

Mine is a crazy, crazy world. Fortunately, damage to bike was minimal, but you can tell it has been down without looking too hard. It is too bad, but isnt bad enough to replace anything.

It is also strange to tell this story and then have whatever friend turn to my wife and say something like "So, when Jef's gone, will you marry me?". (So far she's always said no)

I've been riding on the street since my 16th birthday. :) I kept bikes as my sole source of transportation until I was 19, except for a short stint with a VW Golf when my first bike was stolen. I sold that car a short 5 months later, as I could not afford both. I lost many a girl to the "me or the bike" gig. I always said "the bike". You can't change a man who was born to ride, not even with a short streak of wrecks (the last year). The wife started to suggest I quit after my weekend in the hospital, but I shot it down before it finished leaving her mouth. I think that is why she started riding. She always said she wanted to, but never acted on it. After she walked in the hospital room and saw me sitting there with my wrist shattered, covered in road rash with glass shards sticking out, and all I had to say was "my dream bike is now a hunk of scrap metal". Then I laid it down on my way to work, and I took the bike to the shop before I would go to the doctor (boy was my boss mad). After those two incidents she had to have one. I asked what was up with that, and she said she had to see why I would go through all that for a bike. Now she knows. :) I guess everything happens for a reason. :)
