In these forums people talk about how safe they are and how they never do anything serious unless they are on a track. However everyone I see riding are not being as safe as everyone speaks to be on this board.

Now I know your not the person I see out on the road but can you hear where I'm coming from? Now what do you think it is? Are people as safe as the say they are?

I could be WAAYYY off here, but I suspect that just about everyone here is often predisposed to travel at slightly higher than legal and perhaps safe speeds. I try to be reasonable, but almost every time I ride I think I can identify at least one thing that was probably not such a good idea.

I agree probably most of the people here are guilty of squidly riding at one point or another, heck I've seen plenty admit it. Although also take into account that the people that come to this board and participate actively tend to be the type of person who is genuinely interested in becoming a safer rider and probably less prone to be quite so dangerous.

Keep in mind that there are over 16,000 members on this board. Not all of them live in TX.

I am a safe rider. But I'll admit, I USUALLY ride faster than the posted speed limits. I may take a "favorite" corner a little spiritedly. But I ride within my limits, and... I play... I pay. Simple as that. If I'm out doing a wheelie and trash my bike, end up in the ER... I'm not going to post here and say, "Dudes, I did this wheelie.. and... I'm stupid". Frankly... I believe in keeping that stuff off the street.

You're absolutely right. When I see other motorcyclists out there, a lot of time they are doing squidly things: weaving in and out of traffic, freeway wheelies at 80mph, t-shirts/tank tops, etc., etc., etc. Doesn't mean those people are posting actively on this board. Doesn't mean they are members of this board. I don't hold them to it.

I'm a member of another EZ-Board, like this one. It is run by a friend of mine, but I hardly visit there. Why? Because it IS full of squidly chatter.

"Look man, check out a pic of this weekend's wheelie!"
"Dude, I almost crashed into Billy-Bob (camera man) when I was doing this stoppie with my girlfriend on the back"

No, I choose to be active on THIS board, because most of the people here are interested in being better riders, safer riders, get advice on... just about anything, or giving advice to/educating other riders.

So, don't hold the members of this board guilty for the actions of your neighbors.

Read my Post on ---

---- "What slows you down?" & then you can see why at times I am speeding. As for doing wheelies & stoppies I did this sort of stunt stuff (far more as I did the stunts of going through burning wooden walls, smashing through what looked like an outhouse with someone in it, etc., ---we were paid for this sort of action) when competiting in dirt comp from '47 till '89 but all on private land or land leased for the competitions & practicing. NEVER on the hwys.

I think you're right, but there are levels of safety: from these idiots you see weaving in and out of traffic at 90 mph wearing shorts, tanks tops and sneakers to those who won't leave their garage if there's a cloud in the sky. Probably most of us drive too fast, but in conditions that don't put us or others at risk. That includes riding within our limits and experience, wearing full gear, and recognizing the dangers that are out there.

You have to figure that in any group of people; doctors, lawyers, cops, or motorcyclists, there are going to be a few bad apples. Sometimes there are even more than a few.
