DAMN GIRL!

And we were just talking about how we were doing so good on our bikes! Im really bummed to hear what happened, and especially your beautiful lid. I know Shoei and Arai do X ray. But that mean's you need a temporary lid till you get that one back.

And how long will it be on your sprained ankle? Before you can ride :(

Condolenses
Tiffany

Sorry to hear about that, Kirsty. When I wrecked my Ninja last year, my helmet hit the ground hard enough to scrape it up pretty good and I loved that helmet. I thought about sending it to Arai to have it checked out, but a friend told me they will keep it if it doesn't check out well, so you won't be tempted to wear it. The helmet has dolphins on the side and if I can't wear it, I at least want to look at it, so I didn't send it in. Does anyone know if it's true that they keep the helmet if it doesn't pass? Anyone sent theirs in to be checked before and if so, how did it go?

Hope your ankle feels better soon, girlfriend! Sucks to be lame. :(

So I'm walking back with my friends from the resturant and heading towards the 25 or so sportbikes of our group at the far end of the parking lot... Helmet and jacket in arms, I stroll innocently amongst parked cars towards the sea of Kawi Green and Honda Red... And then, it happened... Without warning my left foot touches the ground and starts the chain reaction of a horrible event...
I hear a snap, crackle, pop, grit my teeth and hold back a scream as my ankle lets go and I start flailing to the ground... I try desperatly to hold on to my Shoei Picotte Replica Helmet as my fingers ingore my heart's request and FLING my beautiful lid into a slow motion introduction to the concrete... I had to let go or my face would have hit the tarmac...

My friends go running after my helmet not understanding why the hell I just threw it at them... Mean while... I'm on the ground cursing b/c I've now sprained my ankle and turffed a hemlet worth more than half a grand on to the ground..... I'm pissed...

I can't believe I dropped it.... Correction, I can't believe I biffed it.... It hit more than 4 feet off the ground, and regaurdless of what my friends may think, I have to get a new one... I have no idea what damage I did to the inside interior and it hitting the ground, eventhough there is but a small scrap in the clear coat, isn't enough for me... I'm so pissed... I would rather have dropped my bike... I can live with scratched fairing, but not damaged safety equipment....

So I am sitting here, not at work, I can't in good faith put pressure on my foot to move my bike or shift... I'm swollen and annoyed... I'm also now mentally in debt...

Has anyone ever gotten their helmet x-rayed? I think I might be able to with some connections... I've read about how well helmets hold up and was wondering if someone has seen first hand how the inner shell compacts....?

Anyway... Sorry for rambling... I just needed to vent and it's not like I can stomp around my apartment to let out my frustrations... Hell, I can't even go for a ride.....

One warning, you don't have to be on a bike to lowside... These days, walking can be very, very detrimental to your health.... And your wallet.....

Ouch, Kirsty, I'm really sorry to hear that that happened. Sounds like you got the ol' thinking cap on straight - get a new helmet, as much as that pains you and your wallet. Keep the old one on display in your apt. and lie about how the damage occured, something like "I was on the Streets of Willow course, really wicking it up, in the groove, pegs scraping, sliders sliding, when this idiot...(you get the idea). :D

Hope your ankle, and your pride, heals soon!

That sucks about your ankle. I little sister twisted hers off a sidewalk last year and broke it.....so it could have been worse.. she still walks with a limp from it. My buddy just got one of those helmets from a place here in Houston for $305. And I saw a place on the net who has them for $289 I believe... If you want me to get you phone numbers "in case you plan on buying a new one".. Let me know. Later....Luis

Hey everyone....

Thanks for the kind words and stuff...

The ankle is a nice shade of purple and swollen like a water ballon... Nice, really nice... I don't mind the pain so much as I have done worse to myself... It's the freakin immobility that is driving me batty.... I am not going to try and push my bike around until Monday morning when I have to drive to work... I can walk okay, I am just afraid of my ankle letting go when I go to back up my bike and have it land on top of me...

As far as my helmet goes... I am going to make my mind up come Monday at work to see which one I should try next... I might just get another Picotte or an X-tec....

Hey Luis.... Thanks for the info my friend... When I mentioned my helmet was worth half a grand, I was speaking Canadian... I get pretty good deals through the shop I work at so I should be fine as far as money goes although I will have to wait a while before I can really afford it....

Anyway, I'm rambling... Must be the analgesics.... Mmmmmmm... Drugs....

Kirsty......

Thanks 1 Fast Chick for the helmet info...

But not to worry...

I work at a motorcycle dealership and basically get things cost.... 300 American is still more than I paid for mine in Canadian... I know I shouldn't bitch about having to buy a new lid at my price but it is still an expsensive mistake I wish my body never made....

I feel old and decreptid.... Time for a Gold Wing..... (jjk)

girl you need to buy a nicky or duhameul replica instead of that picotte stuff! like i said yesterday he's canadian :D but harley (come on...) actully don't buy a duhamel replica because i would have to steal it off your bike at perks when you weren't watching!

You want CANADIAN!!! How about the new HJC's?? Either the Steve Crevier or J.F. Cyre editions, and they both ride for Team Honda Canada!

And by Nicky?? Are we referring to Nicky Hayden? I take it Arai makes a replica of either his old 69 or his new #1 helmets....69 would be a cool one!!

I don't know if there'll ever be a Nicky Hayden replica, since he seems to have a totally different helmet about every other race! In fact, all the young guys seem to be doing that. They never keep a design long enough to make a replica of it...

Anyway, Kirsty, that really sucks. I hate it when a helmet has to go before its time! But you must do what you must do.

I sent in an old Shoei one time, that I just lightly scraped in a race crash, and I never saw the helmet again, and I never heard from them, either. I figured it must have been damaged, but it would have been nice to hear it confirmed. Besides, what's to keep them from keeping ANY helmet you send them? If they never send it back, you have to buy a new helmet, right? Somebody should test it some day -- scratch up a good helmet (not mine, heh, heh...) and send it in and see what happens. I bet they would keep it!

If you have a "Shoei head", Kirsty, I doubt you would fit the Suomy helmets, but they just came out with a Ben Bostrom replica, and it's absolutely gorgeous! I bought one at Laguna for my collection, and I had Ben autograph it... SHWEEEEEEEET!

The Suomy's are actually pretty damn nice if the fit you, and they're not expensive. Retail on the BB Rep is about $425, compared to almost $600 for Arai RX-7 racer replicas... So dealer cost has got to be next to nothing......

:D :D :D
