Why do Nicky Hayden and Miguel Duhammel run RC 51's against GSXR 750's and ZX7's? If someone will shed some light on this for me it would really help. Thanks.

Because it's Honda's current Superbike platform. Twin cylinder bikes can be 1000cc displacement while 4 cylinder bikes are limited to 750cc. :)

Is that what you are wanting to know? ;)

In the world of theory (there are mathematical formulas for determining this, but they're beyond my remedial calculus) a 750cc 4-cylinder and a 1000cc twin should produce about the same power. It works out pretty close in the real world, too. Hence, the rule.

That is exactly what I wanted to know! Thank you!

And on another area Honda is tired of having its ass spanked by the Italian Duc so they couldnt beat them so they joined them (WSB) so they also thought they would get their USA riders on em as well. Could help Honda if they manage to keep the young one on thier ride on the world circuit when he gets up to the big league

If you are not on a gixxer what are you waiting for??

i knew the hp were supposed to be about equal but what about torque.. does the twin produce more (specially cause of the larger displacement) or does it just produce it sooner?

------------------
In general the twins have a little less HP but they do usually have more torque and sooner torque. Usually they have better aerodynamics due to narrower build. :) Much like me.

I guess mathematically the twins can't quite get the same HP which is why they used to have a lower weight limit. Technology kind of evened the playing field.

Kind of like Suzuki. ;) Hopefully they will get a new TLR out that can compete. I've heard rumors of that. :) I guess they will see how the new Gixxer holds up. Without Mladin they would be in real trouble. World Superbike should only get better over the next couple of years. Hell, Kawi may even build a competitive bike by '02. Eric B. is going pretty good over here. :)

John,

Do you really think Suzuki will go the twin route? I'm not exactly plugged into Rumor Central here, but I got the impression from the way they abandoned the TLR for the GSXR that they were fairly committed to the 750 four-cylinder platform, more committed than any of the other manufacturers.

Lance,

I think that rumor came from the Japanese mechanics at the Dec. Daytona tire testing. ;) It would be tough to attack with twins and fours. They have proven that it isn't feasable. :(

Personally, I think it looks like they are more dedicated to the four cylinder. I also think that is what they should stick to. The new bike is impressive in supersport trim. If the chassis is capable of handling Superbike HP and the engine is reliable then it should be an interesting '01 season. :)
