Well, I finally have some time to post about my crash during our trip to Deal's Gap. :(

First of all, I'm fine, just very bruised and sore, but even that is starting to fade at this point. Thank goodness for great riding gear!!

We were riding on Joyce Kilmer, back toward the place we were staying and it was the last day of the trip, thank goodness. Came over a hill and couldn't tell until it was too late that the curve over the hill was extremely tight. I got in too hot and after that point I think one of two things may have happened. What I felt like happened was that I leaned the bike over so far to get through the super tight turn that my peg actually caught in the rough pavement and pulled the bike out from under me. The other possibility is that I got off the gas so hard (nope, didn't hit the brake at all) that I washed out the front end and the bike slid out from under me.

I hit the ground and slid about 60 feet on my left side and back. I smacked the heck out of my head, slammed my left elbow into my ribs and somehow hurt both arches of my feet and both hands. My Hondaline Cordura jacket is scuffed, my Tourmaster Cordura pants are scuffed, my helmet has a chunk out of it, my Chatterbox is toast, slid right on it, my gloves are minorly scraped (awesome gloves) and my boots are minorly scraped.

The bike basically slid about 60 feet on the left side, hit the edge of the grass and high-sided into a ditch onto the right side. Amazingly enough, the only damage to the right side is the mirror. The left side is scuffed, but not too badly. I need a new shift lever, alternator cover and gasket, both mirrors, left turn signal and left lower fairing. I'm amazed that it didn't hurt the tail section or front fairing at all but I'm not complaining about that.

I rode the bike back to the house where we were staying, with my right foot hanging off the peg and shifting gently since the shift lever was bent and cracked and we brought my F4 home on the trailer, all scuffed up. Just ask s-hawk and RCJohn. They said it was a helluva crash to watch.

Now, more than ever, I know how important good riding gear is. :D

your jacket and pants held up well without any rips?

Yup, jacket and pants are NOT ripped. Scuffed from a 40 mph slide, but not ripped. I'm amazed at how well I was protected.

meant to e-mail you to see how those minor hurts were feeling. and she's right, it was straight out of a superbike race kind of crash. i've never seen one happen right in front of me. and no, she didn't hit her brakes. good girl.
the rest of our trip from there was pretty good stace. caught a couple of fish on the boat, and got a pretty good sunburn on my leggies and feetsies. nothing compared to yer bumps and bruises though! and to think, we had just ran through the gap just minutes before. go figure. at least you did what tj said, "if you're gonna crash, crash on the last day!" glad to hear your doin better.

Stacia, Oddly enough, Im almost happy after reading your post. Other than financial concerns, you had a fantastic crash and what an experience! Im sad for your bikes damage, but it sounds mostly cosmetic and the bike will be fine mechanically so all is well. Im SO glad to hear you came out well and your gear did its job! That cordura really is good stuff!! Now our Hondaline jackets really match. :( I guess TJ will have to work a couple of OTs to get you back on the road eh? :D

Ill email you soon...

Yes hon, I'm glad you are ok.

Now, about the cost of fixing that bike.....

Very glad to hear your OK. The way that bike held up...it must be a Honda :D . Good instincts for not nailing the brake too...if it was me there'd be no question why I went down "stupid MF'er hit the front brake." In the few close calls I've had; I have found myself reaching for the brake but I always quickly get off of it too as soon as I realize what I'm doing. I'd like to think that someday I'll quit doing it all together and just lean that bad boy, but only time will tell.
Was TJ behind you when it happened? I would totally freak if I saw my wife go down like that. What's the last thing your chatter box broadcast before it's untimely demise?

I feel bad for splitting off before this little incident. I had been holding you speed demons to a reasonable pace, and apparently when I left you let 'er rip! I hope that pretty pipe didn't get rashed!?!

I am glad to hear you are all right. Sounds like a major spill. Stuff like that happens and since you were prepared you walked away with a few minor bruises and a bike which you can fix. There is a good lesson here for all of us...

Glad to hear that you and the bike came out of a possibly worse situation as good as you did. I like my Cordura jacket and I am glad to hear that it holds up to the road rash abuse with flying colors. We have an extra black/red sz. Med, Tourmaster Cordura jacket if you are thinking about getting another one. Your helmet, chatterbox, and riding gear is all covered on your home owners insurance policy.
Sounds to me as if your footpeg caused the rear tire to lift off, and put you at the extreme lean angle which sent you to the ground. I have done the same thing but came out of it by using my knee to take the weight off the bike to get the peg from scraping, but I still had to check my undies after it was over. Brown/Yellow streaks were running rampant

Yes, TJ and RCJohn were behind me when it happened. They tell me it was a scary sight. Heck, you know it's bad when John won't make jokes about something. I'm lucky to have had such good riders all around me, so I didn't get run over.

I have no clue what the chatterbox last said, but TJ tells me he was telling everyone else I was down so I didn't get hit by someone else coming over the hill into that turn.
