I am considering buying a CBR f4i 2002 with 8800 miles. I went over and looked at the bike the other day and I could tell its been down on the left side by the scratches on the front near the intake, some on the left fairing and some on the back near the passenger seat...no scratches on the crank case though...a few scratches on the right side but nothing major...its probably been tipped over on that side...a few after market parts but he has all the originals like the rear tail lights, exhaust, and front fender. He listed it with his helmets (2) jacket and trailer for 6700 but I wanted just the bike..got him to 5700...
i'm in florida so cant really work the winter to my advantage..is this decent or over paying? I am between this or paying $7000 + ~$500 for shipping for a used 2005 gsx 600r with about 1000 miles from a dealer in wisconsin. The GSXR looks really new and clean...but I would also have to lower it to be comfortable on it. What do you guys think?

$5700 for a 02 f4i seems very high. Especially one that has been down. I wouldn't pay $4000 for it. I bought a 01 two years ago for $4400 with 10000 miles in mint shape. If you look around you should be able to find a clean one in the sub $5000 range. Keep looking. As for the gixxer, that is very high as well. I saw a brand new 05 raven r6 at the dealer for about $7500 OTD. Don't get greedy. Take your time and shop around, you should evevtually find a very nice deal.

I didn't notice the gixxer was an 05. I guess that is a reasonable dealer price. Together with shipping your paying 7500. I would just pay another grand and get a brand new 06 gixxer. That's gonna be a bad ass little bike.

check your local craigslist.org page and view motorcycles. Since your in FL, deals should be all over the place. I was going to get a 2000 F4 in mint condition for 3 grand, but then I got my wrecked RR for 2. I'd say for that F4i should be 3500-4000 max, nothing higher since you can get 2001+ gixxers for 5 or less now. My friend got a mint 2003 gixxer 600 with 6k miles for 5 grand and that was last year.

thanks for all the replies guys...I was thinking the price was a bit too high...I guess I've been very impatient since I have only been looking for a week now...I have plenty of time to decide but you guys must know the feeling I get when I just want to ride..and ride right now. Thanks for making sure I didnt make a big mistake. I checked KBB values and they say $5315 but I really want to find one thats mint and under 10k miles for around $5000. I think that would be a deal.

So I guess the 05 gsxr 600r would be a decent deal if its exactly 7500 after shipping? My friend is trying to sell his 05 gsx 600r for $8000 and hes had it for almost a year and told me thats what he bought it for. I offered him $7000 for it and he rejected that offer since he convinced himself he can get $8000. As for the 06'...I like the looks of the 04' and 05' better for some reason...and I'm hoping to find a decent deal out there...thanks again guys and the more replies the better.

I would certainly go with the 06 Gixxer, but it's your decision. It's totally updated with parts, including a slipper clutch. Call up some shops, I'd wager you could easily find a leftover 05 for no more than $8000. My buddy bought his OTD for under $8000 last May and I got my 636 for $8200 OTD, the next week.

How could your buddy think he could get what he paid for his bike after riding for a year?

btw, KBB does not factor in value for different seasons. Winter time will always be the cheapest to get bikes. Spring and summer will always be inflated. Just take your time and find one that suits your budget.

I've just finished talking to Road Track and Trail in Big Bend, Wisc. They said I could get a 05 gsx600r for $7350..it has 2k miles and they say its in mint condition...they a lot of nice pics but nothing really close like a zoom in of the fairings or crank case. The guy says this is the price after shipped and lowered 2" (yes I need it lowered since I'm 5'5 and prob ~29" inseam). But this is the price before tax, tag and title...which I am confused about. I'm sure I'll be paying Florida tax but when do I pay it? When I go to the tax collector at the tag agency ? The bike does have a clean title as the guy said.

I talked to my friend again and he says hes prob gonna list his bike around 7700. I offered him 7300 for it considering I would still have to get it lowered but I wouldnt need to have someone deliver the bike from WI to FL. Then I told him to go look at what his bike is selling for on the current market and see if I'm making a reasonable offer. Hope it all works out.

You my friend are being taken for a ride. No way is a 2002 bike worth 5700.00......Not even brand new from a dealer would I buy a 4 yr. old bike for that. Well at least not a CBR 600.

I'd say the bike is worth no more than 3800.00 and I wouldn't go over that price. Keep looking you'll find someone willing to almost give away a newer bike because they have to have the latest and greatest.

i've pretty much gave up on the gixxer idea and I'm still looking around my area for f4i's 01-03 in good condition...

I'm going down to tampa this weekend...gonna see a 02 f4i 4k miles perfect condition...guy is asking around ~$5k so I feel I can talk him down a bit...dont know how much but KBB says $5315 for 02 f4i real good condition w/ avg of 13800 miles...the bike is pretty much all stock...sounds more reasonable?

I had a 01 f4i, it is a wonderful machine. You will not be dissappointed with it. My bike ran great up until the point I threw it into the bushes. It had 15000 miles on it. 10000 of those miles were wheelies and stoppies. Beginner wheelies at that, courtesy of my friend and few by me. Most of them wern't pretty. Rough jerking wear n' tear and hard landings. However, the shock was thrashed, but thats about it. The f4i is bulletproof.

Hows the bike hunt goin? If you haven't found one let me know and Ill ask around. Im just outside tampa so your not to far off. I know a few shops around here that fix and sell dropped bikes at fairly good prices. I looked into an 03' F4i with 14k miles earlier this year that was being sold for $3.5k. It was in good shape with a new paint job. Ive still got the numbers to several shops if you want em let me know.

So I have to wonder if this is a FIRST bike for you, meaning is it like your beginner bike & if so then your aim is to high in what you have in mind even if price was half they are asking? So have you taken the MSF course? For both of these paint a different picture.

sorry for not keeping you guys updated...

to answer the last post no...this is not my first bike...I rode my brother's 01' 250 ninja for around 8 months and counting...but I haven't taken the msf yet...thats coming this month..the 14th-17th I believe...already signed up and paid...

I went down and looked at the bike..it was real nice except it was sitting in a garage for over a year so when the guy let me test ride it down the street the engine just died on me and I came to a slow stop...I let it chill a while and it came back to life and I figured it was in for a long overdue oil change..the oil light came on just before so I figured that might be the case...anyways..the guy got it serviced but I am having second thoughts ...

I had 2 questions..if I were to ride it up four hours without a tag...wouldn't I risk being pulled over many times to explain my situation...what are you supposed to do in this case?

Next is...if the guy is still paying off the title to honda...do we basically go to his bank togetherr...put money into his account, wire it to honda..get confirmation that they received it and title is clear...go over to tag agency and apply for a transfer of tag...am I missing any steps? Is this how it this even goes?..any ideas would be helpful..thanks.

You might want to be very careful in that situation. DO NOT put the money in the guy's account, that's just asking for trouble. Once it is paid off, he gets the title, and you'd have to go to the DMV to change that over to your name. It doesn't go straight to you. So he has your money, and the title is still in his name... he could just run off and you'd be fucked. I'm not sure exactly how to approach this situation, but the second it starts getting fishy, or the second you start feeling uncomfortable about something that he did, speak up and threaten to pull the deal off. Good luck and be careful.

The price of the bike around tampa was gonna be $5300...

There is this other bike around me and I'm planning on getting it for $4700...but it does have a lot more mileage...but it looks like its been well taken care of and serviced appropriately. The guy told me he called honda financial and they told him the best way is that we go to my bank and I wire the money straight from my account, that way they know its me wiring the money and the title get clear and sent to me. Then I apply for a transfer. Does this make more sense?

No it's not your first bike! You have been riding a ninja 250, good starter bike in some people opinion, for only 8 months and now you want a new 600? A new 600 has 4 times the power of the 250. That makes the same sence as learning on a CR80 and then jumping to a CR500 in the dirt bike world.

Make sure and take pics of your skin now while you still have it. Then buy the RR and when you crash and burn you have the pics to look back on and say "Hey so that's what I used to look like"

That's if your noob-ass survives to even look back at your horrible mistake.

Super:squid:
