da da da dayum, my friend whos weight is 350 wrecked his neked R1 at a speep of 80. Tha boy was wearing NO gear, only shorts and a sweater. He was racing my brother on tha beltway trying to show-off and lift the front end up at a high speed ( he is a beginer). FRont tire came way up landing him on his back.
WHAT IS MAX TOP SPEED THAT U COULD LIFT FRONT TIRE OFF GROUND ON R1??
Doctors say if he wasn't such over weight he would possible have been dead...

Sorry to hear about your friend, that guy needs to be smarter than that. Shorts!? And wheelying in shorts!? Doh!

I've had the R1 all the way through the gears on one wheel. I know I've seen about 155MPH on the speedo but it had more. I just couldn't handle the wind blasts anymore my arms got tired.

i dunno but your buddy is lucky...buddy of mine laid his f4 down (or should i say over) doing a wheelie....in first doing about 60 hit balance point (which he never hit) and then managed to grab 2 (something else he never did before) and had to much throttle when he did it -- came right off the back. doctors had to remove his knee cap and take 17 rocks from underneath...hole the size of a quarter in the top of knee. broke major bone in his left arm. had NO SKIN left on elbows, knees, or back. took him 6 months to recover fully. he was only wearing shorts, tee shirt, shoes. OUCH -- bike didn't look to good either...oh ya no health insuance!

sorry for the book

WOW RYDING THA R1 through all gears on 1 wheel. That is tha shit i must say. I am getting there with walking my cbr 600. Now i can get to 3rd. yeeeeee haaaaaaaa. My friend also had major road rash. guess what surprised me??? The bike had very little damage. I see that those bikes can take a beating , huh?

If you can get 3rd on your bike then you should be able to get the rests of the gears, you just need to keep the front high enough. It's tricky on a 600 but I know it can be done. The R1 is easy to do it on because it has enough torque to pull the front end back up after a quick shift - basically you don't have to do it perfectly, the bike will make up for it.

As for lifting the front wheel off the ground...

Well, I can bounce the front end up in third gear with a bone stock bike. That's usually at around 70 MPH but you can do it anyway between there and about 120 in third. Pretty much the R1 will lift the front end in 4th, 5th, and even 6th but for that I need a lot of speed and a nice-sized bump, peak or dip in the road.

Aerodynamics are NOT your friend

One problem with high-speed wheelies is that everything you know about balance on your bike at low speed no longer applies. Aerodynamic forces increase with the square of speed, so there's 4 times as much force due to wind resistance at 120 as at 60. With the front end up, that's force tending to blow you over, and a bump or change in the wind can do just that.

Mercedes-Benz had a terrible problem with blowovers at Le Mans a few years back. Cresting a certain hill at high speed, the front end would catch air and flip the racecar over backwards. It happened several times in practice, prompting them to withdraw their entry.

For high-speed wheelies, look for a flat, smooth road. Avoid windy conditions and avoid locations where hills, buildings, bridges, etc. cause locally unpredictable wind.

I've had an r1 up on one wheel up to about 140 (indicated), but the wind was too violent and I let it down. Also, I've pulled it up in third gear @130mph, so the thing definitely has the balls to go through all the gears on one wheel.

but don't u get a little nervous wheeling at such high speeds, i am good for one gear and one gear only, i usally pick up the front wheel to show off getting on to a free way or something but that is about it, at about 120 i am all all over the road trying to keep her up how do you even think about picking up the front wheel

When I was in high school we used to sneak signs on the backs of persons like that guy who crashed that said: "kick my nuts, I am a f***er". I guess you could replace the last word with "fool".

At this point, Chris, I am willing to buy any sportbike. I am still aiming for the zx9 or the gsxr 750 (leaning toward the gsxr), but if I can't afford those this Spring or Summer, I'll settle for something used and down to 600cc's. I'm so fed up with seeing everyone riding but me, ya' know? I feel like a frickin' poser on this site 'cause I speak about bikes but can't ride at the moment. :(

Anyway, this Summer I will be riding...SOMETHING!
