ok, this has absolutely nothing to do with sportbikes, but i am a member of a few otherforums, mostly related to my car, truck, atv etc....

In every fugging one of them it is filled with assholes... people making fun of other members for thier rides, for the questions asked, for the info needed, for pics requested, whatever...

case in point, i am describing my car, how i want to dress up the rear end and was looking for a good spoiler, i tell about the other mods i have done, and thiose i dont want to do, but are available... i get a helpful response, but only after a few a holes ridicule my car and choices for the mods, basically i get rided for changing my taillights and not the body...

my point it Sportbikeworld is the first forum i participated in, was i just spoiled by the lack of assholes in here, or am i going crazy? i know there is some good natured ribbing in hese, but im talking about some meanspirited hateful stuff, just to be ignorant...i dunno, just had to vent to the only community not full of assholes, btw, my bike is on stands, covered, buried in the back of my garage winterized for another buffalo winter, so im a little pissy for ...ohhh the next 4 months

Nice compliment to all. :thumb:

That was the tone set from the start by Robert and enforced as needed by the moderators he selected. Props go to him!:thumb:

hehe don`t say you put altezzas on your hoopty  :p :twofinger

I noticed it too, since I came from posting on car boards for a good while, and although some are better than others, theres still jackasses on them, and the occasional troll that comes to start shit. Doesn`t happen too much, although things do tend to get a bit off topic at times ;) theres not much serious insults, or trolls. Welcome to the site :thumb:

I've only had one bad experience on this board and it was from some jackass who seemed like he was trying to get himself banned and for the first time I've ever seen here, he got banned within a week.

This is the best board I have ever been fortunate to be part of. You not only get great insight, info, and riding buddies, but you get to have a damn good laugh every day. Even though it seems like some days NOTHING goes right, I've logged onto here and gotten some great laughs and I forget about my day.

Thanks, SBW.....I should have said it before.

No comments about being a pussy for the above statement, even though I know it's inevitable!:twofinger :D

I have checked out some other boards and I am on one other. Honestly though If I have a serious question I ask it here. I also give the responses received here more weight. I get some joking from time to time but most replys in SBW seem to be in good humor. The creator of this site had a invisioned what a serious bike info site should look like and I would say its pretty close. Good job Robert.

LOTS of real helpful, EXPERIENCED riders, some good natured ribbing, not too much belittling (unlike another board I can think of, full of squids with 1 year "experience")...yep, we have a pretty good board here. Thanks Robert

I actually got turned to this board by Dad, when we ran into him on a ride, and I haven't been any happier posting on a forum. I too was on a car Forum, but there got to be way too much horsepoo being flung around there so I basically left there for here. Besides...I like to talk about bikes all day more than I do cars!

I agree about the dominant participants on other sites. From what I've seen the smaller the forum, typically the more adult-oriented it is, with the single exception of SBW.

Certainly we can't discount Robert and his moderator selection, but in the somewhat lengthy time I've been here, the moderators have only taken one significant action, which wheelie outlined. The rest of the tone really feels like its carried by its members, and was probably set early on, as Dad points out, and simply got carried forward by joe-poster.

When you join a board, you read others' comments, and if they're flaming others, you'll likely do the same. That's pretty rare around here, and there are enough members to step forward and deal with individuals like that, mod or not.

And don't forget, some things can draw a real attack, but its (almost) always at the idea, rather than the person. Examples include asking for advice and then posting that it was stupid (first bike threads, typically), or posting questions which are highly squid-like (how do I do 120mph on Broadway in NY while doing a wheelie).

This is my safe-haven as well, and I'm not afraid to ask any question somewhere on the board, so for that

I've not ever gone to sportbikes.ws, so I really don't know if it is good or not. I've heard it's awfully PC, and not much is tolerated there, but again, I've never visited so I don't know.

I did try to talk on BARF (bayarearidersforum) for a bit while I lived there, and found it to be very clicky. Either you were part of the group, or you weren't. I wasn't. :2cents:

As a mod on here I really only have one rule, as set forth by Robert: No flaming and/or personal attacks. I've had the honor of escorting a few of our more "special" members out the door. Sometimes it seems harsh, but at the same time it's needed to keep the site as good as it is. For the most part we keep things on topic, but sometimes it's just too hard/tempting not too. In those cases, it's usually not long before the thread is steered back on course.

Like everyone else, I have to say thanks to Robert for all he's done to start the site and get it where it is, and to Mike for keeping it running behind the scenes too! Great job fellas!:thumb:

i agree , its the moderators thate meake the forum, they set the rules, they kick ou tthe assholes, they police the posts, good natured ribbing is nothing, if you can tell its all in fun, i encourage it, it lightens the mood and gives everyone a good laugh, but stupid mean spirited sacastic attacks that do no good have no place, great forum Robert!

Really do not know how I accidently got on this board though I was on another that folded up & still on a few others.

The part I like about this one is all being frank, honest, friendly & willing to pitch in & try to help. It is, without question, a PLEASANT board that runs so well. So my compliments to Robert & who he has helping him as monitors.

I would just like to say that when you have a open discussion forum, you allowing freedom of speech, and that also allows comments from asshole people like you described.

moderators dont neccesarly make a forum, they just help keep as much as peace as possible. to control what they think is right for everyone is actually wrong. moderators need to understand its freedom of speech, that is why you have a wide varity of different people. they sign up under the assumption that there opinion is allowed, even one someone else doesnt agree with it. regardless of the content, unless the content is far and beyond offensive.

As soon as you start paying the monthly $400+ dedicated server hosting bill for SBW then you can have your freedom of speech. Until then you have to listen to the moderators. ;)

P.S. Not trying to start an argument. Just stating the facts.

I can pay that and then more. and even if I did, I still would allow as much freedom speech as possible. you can always control what people need to read and not read. having guidlines is cool, but when someone is being annoyed by another member, i think you should just let them hash it out, unless they use the board publically in a manner that is not suited for the general public.

of course freedom of speech is important. 400 dollars a month aint shit. :) but good job robert, I do enjoy the site.
