I just got back from a trip to Chicago. Since the weather was nice i thought i would take a chance with the bike. For the most part the Indiana turnpike is nice and smooth and free of cops. Ohio also has a well kept turnpike and there is a trooper every mile to keep it that way. So it was nice to be able to ride mile after mile at 80+ without the constant fear of being pulled over. The downside is while Ohio only uses marked police cars, Indiana uses both. I found that using an SUV with Michigan plates is the best way to flush out the unmarked Luminas and Taurus. I was passed three times (once at 85 and twice at 90 mph) by such. Two of the SUVs were puilled over by unmarked, the third i lost while he was passing people on the shoulders in a construction zone. Anyway I enjoyed the trip out. The trip back was hell. Because of where my friend lives I had to go through downtown. Because of an accident two of the five lanes were shutdown. I was traveling along at 15-20 mph in the far left lane with a semi behind me. The car must not have saw me and thought it was an opening because he sped up and cut the semi off. I heard the truck horn about the same time i saw the car fender heading towards my leg. Out of instinct i swerved towards the shoulder and hit the brakes. I came to a complete stop then lost control. I dumped my heavy ass bike in the middle of bumper to bumper traffic. Luckly i did not get my leg caught under it. I however brought traffic to a complete stop. Everyone was stopped and looking at me. and i could not get that heavy ass bike back up. The truck driver jumped out and gave me a hand (he had a Harley shirt on). The car that cut me off, never stopped. Probably from Ohio too. Damages for the bike.. scratches on the fairing and a broken left mirror.
(if anyone has one for sale for a '88 Hurricane email me). As far as damges for me.. i twisted my back a little while i was fighting to keep the bike up as it went down. I'm really lucky. things could have been much worse. ie..the truck not stopping..
I hope everyone has accumulates many rain and accident free miles this weekend.
try not to eat too many firecrackers.
