I'm figuring i may give racing a shot this year. I have a EX500 I got for next to nothing, and I suppose thats what I'll use. Does anyone else who is racing one of these have any advice for me? I'm a Honda/Yamaha/Harley mechanic, so I haven't had much experience with the little Kaw. Any info on the good products and set-up or even some helpful links would help me out alot. Thanks

???

don't know much but here's some links

http://www.io.com/~duke/newrrfaq.htm has a brief write up and a link to an ex500 list that has a lot of racers (they entered the 24 hr of willow in 1999).

also http://mbmotorsports.net has some ex info

if you're racing in lrrs (ccs new england) join the near list (info at lrrsracing.com), there are a ton of guys racing ex's on that list.

Justin, I assume you know where you are going to be racing. This is what you do. Go to the races and literally steal ideas off the other EX's racing there. Get to know some of those guys and pick their brains. There is no better way to learn about how to set up your bike, then learning from the guys that are going fast. The EX can be very competitive if set up well, but remember you will be in the same class as SV's and Hawks. Good luck on the racing and keep us posted.

Also see if you can find an EX List and join. If I find one I will post it.

EX List

I'm a member of that list (http://www.sport-twin.com/STN.shtml) and there are quite a few racers and EX enthausiasts, like myself, on that list. Everyone discusses modifications, bike problems, general maintenance, tire selection, racing and riding stories etc. Overall it is a good bunch and generally very helpful. It is the source for EX info., if they can't answer questions about the EX, no one can.

BTW, good choice on a track bike, it is also a very competent street bike and a true joy to ride.

Best of luck on your racing endeavors,

Marc
